Rome for 2 Days

Hi

I am traveling to Rome but only for two days. I get in Friday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon AND i have to work on Saturday for a few hours.

Suggestions on where to eat? Bars? Since I really only have two evenings.

I am going to try and go to the vatican on Sunday morning - is that a horrible idea?

get to the Vatican early and be prepared to stand in line. If you get there after 0900, then you're going to be in line for awhile. it will take you 3-4 hours to see the vatican and St Peters (be sure to wear long pants and if you are with a woman, she should wear a long skirt or pants and cover her shoulders...there are attire-police at the entrance of St P). Find out (ask conceirge at hotel) when the vatican opens, and get there 1 hour before.

Piazza Navona is a good place to stroll in the evening and eat dinner, gelato etc. Piazza Spagna and Fontana Trevi are also nice places (but overrun with tourists, and beware pickpockets) to stroll at night.

Piazza di Spagna is definitely worth visiting, as is Piazza Navona. Trevi... meh... it's so overrun with tourists. There's no charm, at all. There are plenty of places in Trastevere to hang out in the evening - a more vibrant crowd. Also, just wander the old Jewish ghetto in the daytime or through other older parts of Rome like Campo Marzio... just taking strolls through back streets, little alleys and hidden piazzas is really worthwhile. For a good Roman meal, go to Da Gigetto near the Portico D'Ottavia. Excellent food!

Thanks for the suggestions. I did manage to get to the Vatican but unfortunatly the Sistine Chapel was closed. However St. Peters was very impressive.

Also Visited Plaza Narvona - it was awsome. Managed to walk around the city till 2 am, seeing all the major sites. What a city, I am going back when I have more time.
