Got to be part of a bigger move, right?

Right?

i still am kind of confused this guy, though not a great scorer, had a great passing game, aaron brooks is a shoot first point gaurd, but would anyone like to explain this to me? im still kind of confused on why we got them

Their season ended when Tmac went down for the count. Brooks is the future (actually the present, now) at the point and you might as well start getting him as many reps as possible. My guess is that they moved Alston because they knew he'd have a problem with coming off the bench and it would poison the team.

Lowry is actually a very good pickup. Memphis has been overstocked with point guards and he hasn't gotten the playing time to really prove it.

Yeah, the more i look at it the more it makes sense.

Rafer and Lowry are very similar stat-wise. Lowry is 10 years younger than Alston too.
My only concern is their(Brooks and Lowry) size on the defensive end
People are acting like losing Rafer is the end of the season? Wow.

Move makes sense to me. Alston is one of the streakier, more inconsistent shooters in the league. Further, Alston is under-appreciated around the league. Therefore, anything of value you get for Alston is going to be a plus.

Lowry is a very good defender. He's of the shorter, stockier PG builds - kind of like a poor man's Deron Williams. Lowry is good at defense - he gets a good number of steals a game. Moreover, Lowry is a driver, something the Rockets severely lack. If Lowry can help get the Rockets into the bonus quicker, it means more freethrows for Yao, who makes around 80+ percent.

I like the trade. It gets the Rockets younger and gets value for Alston when Alston really isn't that desired around the league. Biggest change, however, is allowing Brooks to take over starting duties.

We'll see how this plays out.

This was a great trade for Orlando. They were done when Nelson went out, but Alston running point will put them back into contention.

I happened to hear Morey say last night that Lowry ranked in the top 10 in getting to the line. I don't know if that's for PGs, per minute, short PGs or what. But they found something moneyballish that they liked.

The trade makes a lot of sense for Orlando. It makes no sense for Houston. Houston saved Orlando's season at the 25th hour, it seams like they got very little in return for that. What did Orlando give up? Brian Cook--a salary dump.

Not only could Kyle Lowery not win the starting job from Conley, a flop, but he couldn't win it from a 52 year old Damon Stoudimire last season either.

Awful trade. Great gift.

maybe alston was nice, but didn't he get in trouble with the law a couple times (slashing/stabbing in a bar in new york)....he has been in the news a few times the last few years you know

Rafer's biggest problem was that he was an incredible liatbility as a shooter. Even more, for his ability to distribute, he was erratic getting the ball into the post at times, and I think part of that was because his defender tended to cheat off of him a bit because there wasn't a lot of fear of his shot.

What's more the problem with this trade, IMO, is that Lowry's not a particularly good outside shooter either plus AB has shown a tendency to be inconsistent from outside as well.

I do like Lowry's strength/size at the point, his ability to drive to the hole and finish, and his ability to guard the likes of Kidd and Williams (Utah) in the post.
