Rockets Involved in Trade??

According to the Houston Chronicle the Rockets traded Batum to Portland for Joey Dorsey, and somehow they are acquiring Donte Green from Memphis.

It is one sorry excuse for journalism...doesnt make sense at all.
The Link

Draftexpress is reporting it is Darrell Arthur & Joey Dorsey for Batum....this makes more sense.

But if Houston somehow comes out with Arthur, Dorsey, and Green

We'll see what the truth is...

I wouldnt say they "Really Need" them, I actually think its quite opposite.

They have Scola/Landry/Hayes....now just add Arthur/Dorsey to the mix if this is true. If Portland was drafting for Houston, I have no clue why they would want ANOTHER PF in Dorsey when they are already getting Arthur. CDR would have been MUCH MUCH better.

This scares me a bit, b/c it might mean they are worried that Landry is going to get an offer in free agency. And Hayes sucks....so it might be Scola/Arthur/Dorsey.

They could have done better, but getting 3 guys that "might" pan out is better than just Batum...increases the odds. Hopefully one turns into a real player.

Now I read that Arthur is going to Memphis in a 3 way deal and Houston only gets Dorsey/Greene...

Oh well...

And Arthur is going to Memphis with.....OJ MAYO...insane

Better than having that Frenchman around. Good job by Morey of making the best from a bad situation.

Methinks Morey's not done wheeling and dealing. Gut feeling is that Novak and Hayes will be on the way out soon....

Yeah, the trade works out significantly better for the Rockets. Having to stand pat with Batum would've been cause to never watch the draft again.

I really like this deal(s) because we get Greene, who I like a lot & Dorsey who can be that Ben Wallace (a couple years ago) type banger who can give you some very solid defensive minutes.

So, for Batum, the Rockets get Donte Green, Joey Dorsey, and Memphis' 2009 second-round pick.

That is exceptional work by Houston's front office.

I heard Morey on the radio this morning. He said they will match any offer Landry gets and that he isn't going anywhere. He said they feel Dorsey is a very versatile defender and will give depth at the 4 and 5. He said CDR doesn't have a great shot past 15' and is too reliant on beating his man off the dribble. He said that they did not feel he would fit in to Rick's offense because of that. I had to get out of my truck then so I didn't get to hear him talk about Greene.

On the surface, its looks like a pretty slick deal for Morey. Blazers wanted Batum. They knew SA did too. Morey knew all this too. So he took advantage.

But I am still wondering about one part of this deal. What if, after Houston took the frenchie fo the Blazers, SA then drafted Greene?

Since there are so many conditions to be met, I dont think the deal would be submitted in advance. Given the speed with which the draft moves and the uncertainty of which players will be left at this point of Round 1, I dont see how it could be agreed, submitted and approved in advance. Instead, deals like this one are made on the fly as teams sort through who is left on the board

Which gets me back to issue of what if SA took Greene? Would that mean the deal was off and Houston is stuck with Batum? (and thus the sight of them coming out to tell us that they couldnt believe he was still on the board and they had him targeted all along. lol).

More likely, the Rox would have given two choices to Memphis for the deal to be agreed upon ahead of time -- "Blazers take Arthur and Griz take Greene for Houston as Choice A, but if not, then take Player X". They could have quickly and easily done that in this instance since it was a three-team deal all of whom were picking within 4 draft slots. So, Houston would have known they would get either Greene or Player X.

If true, who was player X? Dorsey or someone else?

And here is one more question just for giggles -- What if by some chance Player X was George Hill? A case of SA returning the favor (courtesy of Dennis Lindsey insight). Seems unlikely but Morey showed us last year he will make a pick none of the experts saw coming. Maybe he liked Hill? Something he might never admit even if true.

Anyway, wasnt sure if I am unpealing this onion correctly. Anyone else care to shed some light?
