Roadrunner/Internet help

We have roadrunner for our internet connection, and for about the last six weeks, we lose our connection about 6-7 times a day, but only for about 45 seconds at a time. I called Time Warner, and they said our signal strength is fine, and our modem isn't sending out any signals to them, so they see nothing wrong. He said I could bring the modem in and switch it out for a new one, but that sounded like a guess on his part. Any other ideas?

Waldo nailed it. Mine worked flawlessly for a couple of years, then it suddenly started dropping connections. When it started happening multiple times per day, I reached my breaking point and exchanged it. I haven't had a dropped connection since.

Usually it is acceptable to walk in with a cable modem and ask for an exchange at any of their customer service centers as long as you are an authorized person on your account. It may be wise to call technical support first, but they will typically tell you that you can just go by the service center, so this step probably isn't necessary.

I had a similar problem with the original Toshiba modem they gave me. It had a hard time synching and was nearly unusable. They sent a tech out who upgraded the cable connection to the house and tested the line with his hand-held spectrum anayzer. He thought he had fixed it, but shortly after he left it did the same thing. I then pinged the rr server a few times and saw that it was dropping packets at least 60% of the time. The tech on the phone suggested that I take it in to their office for a new one. That fixed it right away.
