Riverwalk Restaurants

We hung out in San Antonio for a few days earlier this summer, and enjoyed these restaurants:

Dolores del Rio -- small, funky, intimate Italian joint with very good food as well as live music and belly-dancing. Lots of fun, still fairly casual.

The Fig Tree -- moderately upscale, good steaks & seafood

Casa Rio -- typical TexMex, quite tasty, inexpensive

For Mexican food, Acenar on E. Houston is pretty damn good. I'm not even the biggest mexican food fan and the camorones de diabolos with cilantro rice was outstanding. Rosarios is very, very good too.

For steak, go to Bohanon's. Best filet I have ever had. Bring your wallet though. Its not cheap (ask scottsins), but its so worth the money.

For a good bar, I really like Howl at the Moon. Never had a bad time there, and if you go on the weekends, there are usually a couple of bachelorette parties going on (shooting fish in a barrel). V Bar in the Valencia is pretty cool as well. If you like clubs, go to Suede. I didn't like it but I'm not a big club type of guy.

My favorite place is Biga on the Banks. It has always been great and the wait staff has never let me down. If you get dessert, get the Sticky Toffee Pudding with English Custard. It is amazing.

I also like the Fig Tree if you are looking for something romantic. On that same note, Sazos at the Marriott Rivercenter is pretty sweet. The hotel just went under major renovations and this restaurant is pretty cool. They have these booth spaces that resemble little coves for a sort of semi-private atmosphere.

I would highly recommend Azuca for dinner. It is not on the River Walk, but downtown and the food is great. If you like mojitos, they make the best I’ve had. It is a really neat atmosphere as well. The most fun I’ve had downtown has been here.

As for bars, the one at the Marriott Rivercenter isn’t bad. I typically go toward the pubs downtown such as Durty Nelly's Irish Bar, Mad Dogs British Pub etc. just because I’m not a fan of the places like Swig, Suede, V Bar, etc. On The Half Shell is a pretty neat place to go as well.

Have fun!

Second hte recommendation of Rosario's on South Alamo, as well as Boudro's.

My favorites, however, are off the river

1) Paesano's on Basse for Shrimp Paesano or Snapper Paesano.

2) Chris Madrids for hamburgers.

Is any trip to SA complete without a late night stop at Mi Tiera or La Margarita? Grease is a wonderful cure for alcohol and prevents a hangover.

I stayed by the Riverwalk a few months back. I ate at Mi Tierra in the Market area just off the river. We enjoyed it quite a bit.
