Where would you guys guess each of these players will be ranked when rivals hands out their star rankings? I really like this class already!!

Congrats on all the new commits already for the 2010 class.

Question, how does Texas get so many early commits? I know some players like to get the recruiting thing out of the way early on but Texas' class, it seems, is always just about set before the season even begins. Do Texas recruits just like to commit early? Does Mack Brown encourage them to announce early on? Has it become a tradition now for anyone who is strongly considering the Horns to announce early?

A lot of other schools are also following suit but Texas is far ahead of the pack. USC has 2 commits already. Both announced several months ago. In the last couple of years, Pete has been recruiting hard and offering more players a lot earlier than he used to.

Russia,

I don't really know the definite answer, but here's my guess.

The UT staff has convinced kids that there is a really low supply. Therefore demand goes up early on.

Last year only 25 kids had official visits and we had 20 of them commit. That's 80 frigging %!!!

Basically, they'd done a good job of convincing 17 year old's... "if you don't get on the train early, its gonna pass you by" Since our avg is so high... and you pass a scholarship up. 2 months later, your spot may be gone.

Agreed...UT is THE place to play in this part of the country, and the scholarship limits actually work to our advantage in getting early verbals.

Mack and staff do a great job of identifying potential players early on, get them excited about the possibility of an offer from the Horns (...with the pitch of how exclusive those offers are.) then when the Junior Days roll around, reemphasize that the offer's there, but others are committing, and the chosen ones don't want to wait too long and wind up signing someplace they really don't want to go.

There are the studs that Texas will hold a 'ship for, but not too many of 'em. Any pressure is subtle, unlike the "used car" sales pitch used by some schools. The smart ones, the ones who really want Texas, don't wait too long, and once committed, they stay committed. Texas loses very few early pledges before signing day.

Does that explain things USSR?

I'm also curious about the probable star rankings for these guys. Are most of the first 10 4*? Any potential 5* in the group? I realize it's irrelevant. I just find it interesting.

According to rivals

Benson= four star
Dixon=four star
Hopkins=four star

Seastruck=four star
Wood=four star
darius White=four star

Wood=four star

Early commits get lower rankings. Those at certain schools get higher rankings than kid at others. Notice how well Alabama's 4*/5* looked on the field against Utah's 2*/3* as ranked by Rivals.
