Rivals or Scout?

Im about to subscribe to one of them, but i want to chose the best one. Which do you prefer and why? Thanks!

Several weeks back when DJ Grant committed to UT, Scout still had him listed as a 2 star DE. Rivals100 has a lot of free articles and is a better site imo.

I like Rivals myself. Just think their info turns out to be more accurate than Scout a little more often, their site has a little more content, and information is released a little bit quicker.

Chalk another one up for Rivals. Their info always seems to be more up to date IMO. And like the above poster said, you can see alot of the stuff for free on Scout anyway.

Rivals is a joke today....

it used to be very good from 2001-2004/5 range.

But the Bama owners have made it a joke today...

put a OL at C to be the number 1 recruit at that position, even he laughed about it, saying he was no were near the number 1 center in the nation.

The second to third best recruit in Louisiana was moved from a 4 star player to a 3 by the BOL site writer after he committed to LSU.

Recruits are being moved to position they haven't played to make their ranking higher or lower passed on one writers oppinion.

Chancey Aghayere was moved to DT by another of the BOL writers, when he will be a DE at LSU.

Louisiana recruiting ranks are messed up bad on Rivals and BOL site writers have more imput on Louisiana than the Louisiana writers working for Rivals?

I could list story after story down the line being pulled at Rivals now.

I use to really like the rivals site but it sucks now. The "pumpers" over there are out of control and there are rarely any good conversations. I also believe they are using unethical practices to drum up new subscribers. Those of you who have read the "For those looking for more Darrell Scott in-home information" post know exactly what I mean.

Rivals is worthless

unless you want to be tricked by their "headlines"

or

you want to talk about oprah topics on their "premium" board. you spend more time trying to find a decent football topic around there, their mods like dr.phil i suppose

oh yah, scout is not much better

i would save your money and read free stuff anywhere you can, not worth it

Tigger, are you saying that the bamaonline mods own and are incharge of the rankings/rivals????

could some of it be trent edwards having a lackluster under armor game and practices.

and doesnt tolliver being number 1 after committing to lsu kind of disprove that theory??

could it also be mike s writes on a third grade level including dropping robby green because he lacks the height ideal for a shut down corner but then moves up someone interested in lsu who is atleast an inch shorter??

and are you as angry at Ketch on orangebloods because he dropped chancey 11 spots in his final rankings??

who is the one writer on BOL if you dont mind me asking, i'd like to bring it up with him.

but i am open minded, so please post the story after story so that the original poster is able to make a solid, informed decision.

Too much stuff on free sites and forums. Why give part of your paycheck to self-appointed experts who don't know any more than you do?

I resisted paying for access to any of the recruiting sites until October of last year (I think it was). Orangebloods (Rivals) is quite good, IMO. They definitely were all over the Muschamp story as it was going down. It was unbelievable how much daily/hourly coverage they were providing (e.g. the airplane carrying Muschamp from Austin back to Auburn had just landed at the airport). I will probably suspend my Orangebloods subscription after signing day (and hopefully pick it up again in August), but I will say that the site is good. You can could give it a one-month (or one-week free) trial and decide for yourself.

2 things

1) I thnk OB is best. I sometimes get e-mails from friends who subscribe to one or the other and I think Ketch's war room is better.

2) I used to subscribe to OB. It was fun, but leads to serious obsessiveness with 17 yo psyches. I was on OB when we went thru the whole RP mess and dropped it after that. I haven't regretted it one day since. I like reading topics here and other free sites and get plenty of information that way. I don't really care about recruiting during the season, I care about football. I like to see how we're doing after the season, and the free sites give you plenty there.

I guess you could try the one-month free pass, but make sure you understand how and when to cancel so you don't screwed. I would recommend you stay away from it tho, it can lead to a year of stressing too much about a HS junior/senior's thought processes and leave you an emotional wreck at the end of it.

All of that to know stuff 1 or 2 weeks (at most) before everyone else does.

Also, on the Muschamp story (and the Applewhite story). I saw links to their plane itineraries while the planes were still in the air, here on HF, for free. It's not like they have any exclusivity on information, except what they gather. And most of that will be known quickly enough, if it's true

Squall,
First Tyler Edwards is a top 3-4 player in Louisiana this year, Rivals admitted they didn't do the Louisiana rankings well. T. Edwards was moved down to a three star less than 2 weeks of committing to LSU over Bama.

The BOL writer saw him one week at the all star game and dropped him to three stars, based on parctice and one game.

T. Edwards is a player on the same level as his brother out of high school, and will play TE and start at LSU one day barring injury.

Also Chancey was moved from DE to DT by rivals, that is why he dropped in rankings, he will never see the field at LSU at DT unless there are many injuries to all the all star DTs LSU is loaded with at this time.

I didn't even touch the Robby Green ranking, who by most all state list is ranked between 16-28 and is a four star player, who could well go on to have a great career at Alabama, but in Louisiana these players were looked at by the LSU staff and most recruiting experts in La. as better than Green:
Brandon Taylor
Ryan St. Julien
Derrick Bryant
Jerico Nelson
also the border line same level player as Green:
Prentiss Waggner
Green has been soft on covering one on one, which is the same draw back seen in Waggner, while I haven't seen Green play in person other recruiting experts in NO and from all over the state have and most place him as I posted.

Green did well imo going to Bama, as Saban is the best secondary coach in the country and at practice works more with the db's than any other position (my nephew played for Saban).

Prentiss and Jerico both lost out in the numbers game at LSU and both would have been offered before Green.

Just because Tolliver ends up number 1 has nothing to do with Rivals playing a number game with LSU.

Rival's LSU site lost a large number of subcribers in the last two weeks, due in large part from the fact that LSU was ranked number 7 and took a nose dive in rankings to Edwards change in rankings and Chancey move to DT.

In rivals rankings teams loaded at one position don't get as many points for a player if it is felt that teams need isn't that great.

Also many fans have come the rivals board and posted, now does one get a commitment and lose points?

That is a matter rivals has to fix, one should never lose points for a commitment.

LSU lost 6 points for Lavar Edwards, he is another DT at a position LSU is loaded at, so for me it was no surprise, but many more dropped from the LSU rivals site on that call, coming on the heels for the T. Edwards BOL fiasco and the Chancey move to DT.

BOL writers should have 0 imput on Louisiana recruiting, until rivals learns this La. rankings will be messed up like this year.

Go to the LSU site and ask Mike his take on the Edwards deal, or the La. rankings.

To show you how bad rivals rankings in La, check the dirty dozen of the NO paper, BR paper, and Don's list.

Mauti is the most underrated player in La. and Penn St is getting a very good player.

LaRon Byrd is a steal whoever ends up signing him. He is another recruit that may end up losing out at LSU to the numbers game.

I have followed recruiting since 1976 and even worked for a recruiting service in the early 80's (Bob Gibbons' All Star sports report) for what that is worth.

Rivals is a very interesting source for rumored information and fan opinions. You may enjoy rivals. I got tired of hearing about things that might happen, but ultimately did not happen...about 90% of the time.

UT4EVR,
That is one of the main problems at rivals today and it started around the 2004 season, you are seeing more articles with the slant of team x may lead for y player; when near eveyone knows team z has the player already locked up.

Hey folks. Clendon with Inside Texas here. Just wanted to make a couple of comments on this thread since it directly relates to our business. If the mods believe this is inappropriate and delete, I totally understand.

First, I believe that there is room in the Texas market for both Orangebloods and Inside Texas because I believe we are complimentary products. At Inside Texas, we try to focus on unique, informative and in-depth content. I think that is best exemplified by our special contributors (guys like Pat Culpepper, who played and then coached for Texas in the early 60s and contributes regular commentary, and former Longhorn QB James Brown, and Mike Venable, who moderates our Coaches Corner forum, which is a more technical, Xs and Os forum, and who grades out the performances of the players each week during football season), our special features (like the weekly Inside Scoop, our Inside the Class series) and our monthly magazine (which allows us to go in-depth on Longhorn-related subjects). That's all in addition to our on-the-ground coverage of UT football, basketball and baseball, plus recruiting.

I've never looked at this as an either-or thing, and I suspect that some of you would feel the same way if you gave us a try, even if just for the 7-day free trial period. If you do, I'd start with the Inside Scoop, and go back and read as many of those as you can to get an idea of what you can expect each week. And then pop in on the Coaches Corner message board to get a feel for the Xs and Os, game plan and scheme conversation there. And in the meantime, just read our game previews and coverage of basketball, our recruiting reports, etc. After that, if you think it's worth a few bucks a month, we'd love to have you. Otherwise, simply cancel your subscription within the 7-day period with no further obligation.

And if you have any questions about the way we do things, please feel free to ask. I'm available just about all the time to talk.

Thanks!

Want inside info without nonsense? Spend the same money and get Jerry Scarborough's True Orange newsletter/updates via email.

The premium websites are overrun with idiotic suckups that the mods won't control and the board software at both sites sucks.

I'd save my money and get the free stuff.

I had a membership to rivals for a while but, quite frankly, felt a tad slimy paying for it. There's something about grown men like Ketchum following recruits around like paparazzi that makes me uncomfortable. (I don't mean to say Ketchum is any worse than the other schools' moles...he's just the only name I know.)

I decided it was ridiculous enough for me to actually care about the decisions of 17 yo much less PAY for the info. In addition, it's hard to believe anyone at OB has ever taken a journaliam class. I've never read any other "professional" web articles that are riddled w/ type-o's, misspellings and poor grammar than I have at OB. If Ketchum got a journalism degree, he needs a refund.

I've come to view Scout and Rivals as somewhat...creepy. JMO.

BTW, I DO realize I'm being quite hypocritical in that I still follow recruiting on hornfans and much of the info on here filters down from those sites. But like I said, I'm not supporting it w/ my membership any more.

Rivals is $10 a month or $100 a year. That is nothing. Seriously...

If you think you are getting the same info on the free boards, then you really have no idea what you are missing.

It's true that a lot of the information on the site never develops. However, it's fun to watch how hyped recruits perform in college even if they don't go to UT.

I believe that Clendon said it best, they can be complimentary sites. Both are great for what they provide and some people prefer one over the other because of differing content and styles.

First question I have is why are you asking this question on this site? The "Home Page" shows articles from March 1, 2007 as the most current. I've sent several emails to the "proprietors" of the site regarding this and to date have not rec'd a reply.
I agree with Clendon and other posters in that I think that the sites compliment each other. I subscribe to both premium sites and the $199.90 per year (55 cents, or less than the cost a diet coke, a day) is well worth it. Don't sweat it... if cost is that important, do both at the month to month rate for a little while and judge for your self which best suits you. One aside, the Inside Texas magazine (free with annual subscription to Scout) is a heck of a magazine. Not as timely as I would like but in all honesty, if you had to pick just one site, the mag could well be the tie breaker.
