Rivals.com Top 25 Rankings chat

I was reading Kendall Rogers Top 25 chat from this afternoon. And some idiot (who was signed on as Guest) first asked why Texas was ranked ahead of Rice, and then insinuated that Texas backed out of playing UTSA this year because we didn’t want to play them or is somehow scared of them.

So Kendall gave his answer, then a few minutes later the same yahoo commented again pressing the issue...here is the dialogue and a link to the chat.

what a tool....

if you've been saying that Rice is the premier team in Texas (and i agree) why is Texas still ranked above them? They haven't played the teams Rice has. and what is your take on Texas "conveniently" dropping UTSA from their schedule this year?

1:13 Guest -- That's just the way the rankings worked out this week, but I think the rightful places will come in due time. Even though Stanford isn't a great team and actually is pretty average, I expect them to give Texas a dogfight this weekend in Palo Alto. I've been pretty disappointed with Texas' scheduling thus far. Pretty weak if you ask me. As for the UTSA deal, that's something that will have to be asked to Texas coach Augie Garrido. The 'Horns are traveling to Texas State this week, so I doubt they are scared of too many SLC teams.

Texas State and UTSA are 2 different teams... just making it aware that UTSA tried to get both games scheduled in Austin to avoid any reason for Texas to cancel and yet they still backed out...

1:19 Guest -- No clue..... again, I'm going to guess Texas is not real scared of UTSA or any other SLC team for that matter.

Rice fans being unreasonably hateful and jealous of UT? Well I am shocked and amazed by this developement.

Yeah I know, pretty shocking right.....but I just think its so comical to imply that Texas is ducking UTSA...that's classic.

kendall is good ****. you could tell he wanted to let Guest know what a dumb **** he was. Texas isn't afraid of anyone. Augie loves a challenge.

Rice and Texas A&M benefitted from a strong Minute Maid Classic field. Some great teams there. Texas goes every other year and A&M is there the other years.

Texas can always count on Stanford to be a force to reckon with. And typically expect the Cardinal to be a top 10 team.

with a shortened season, we only get to schedule 3 OOC series. i'm just glad we didn't pick a bunch of directional state schools.

i would've preferred someone over Penn St, but there is no need to schedule three straight weekends with powehouses. we'll never get a chance to try things out like we do against inferior foes.

Great post GOO..

It appears that either the same guy or another moron chimed in on the Baseball America chat also...and Aaron Fitt did a good job of putting the idiot in his place as well:

Q: Tex from Austin asks:
So we know where everyone stands, is Baseball America now admitting that the key to their rankings is to schedule creampuffs and then beat the heck out of them? Specifically, is it better to start 9-0 at home against northern teams that won't sniff an outdoor practice for another couple weeks or to start 5-2 — all but one away from your home field — having played post-season level (perhaps even Omaha-caliber) schedule?

A: Aaron Fitt: A series loss is a series loss, Rice fans. A series win is a series win. We're not necessarily going to jump a team up for beating up on "creampuffs", but neither are we going to punish them in the rankings for taking care of business. We're certainly not going to jump another team over them when it has already lost a series—I don't care how tough their schedule has been.

I just think it is funny that these guys are so preoccupied with trying to derail a college baseball chat in order to express their displeasure with a poll two weeks into the freaking season....what tools

It can be noted that the "Guest" may have maroon blood. UTSA is coached by Sherm Corbett and their AD is Lynn Dickey, Aggie Alums. UTSA won their SLC division last year and Texas State was second, but unless I am mistaken, neither advanced to the tournament.

The "unwritten law" to host a regional seems to be 40+ wins, regular season conf title or conference tournament title, or a combination thereof. Strength of schedule does not have the same weight as football and basketball, especially in a strong baseball conference.

Since I will not be at Stanford this weekend, I may attend the UTSA games here in my "Six Dog Piles and Counting" tshirt.

Yeah Sam Houston State was the lone representative from the SLC in the Tournament last year.
