Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas

We went right after it opened for a company trip. Actually I don't even think it was all the way open - some portions were still under construction if I remember correctly.

Anyway, the place is beautiful. The food was not very good, but there was awesome food and drinks in town (which sucks since you paid for the all inclusive).

I didn't get a chance to fish because we golfed for two days with the big wigs, but a couple of people we met while we were there did and caught a ton. I pondered going on the last day of the trip so I asked them who they chose. They said they simply got a cab ride into town and the docks. They just asked people how much and chose the one with the best looking boat and perks for the price. Not sure if they just got lucky, but said it was some of the best fishing they ever had.

I can tell you - the golf is unbelievable. Pricey, but awesome.

The beaches kind of suck. The sane is really coarse - think cat litter - and the under current is so strong that only a very strong and athletic individual dares to brave the water (at least the four days we were there that was the case).

I hope that helps. I am sure jealous.

I plan on playing at least one round and dedicating one day towards fishing. I will be there seven nights so any other recommendations would also be appreciated.

I'm surprised the sand sucks...

Well I've never been to the Baja and the pictures I've seen make the sand look nice. I'm not as well traveled as some of you...

The only swimmable beach is in front of the Melia Cabo San Lucas. It's called Medano Beach. Other than the local people selling crap, it's pretty nice. For fishing, I'd recommend the Pisces Fleet. They don't have the fanciest boats, but they are really good people and they know where the fish are. I recommend the Rebecca with Roberto as your captain. If I could only play one golf course, it would be the Ocean Course at Cabo Del Sol. When you get to the 17th hole, walk behind the 16th green towards the water. That's where the very cool (but usually unmarked) pro tee box is. Depending on the tide, you'll be hitting your ball over the Sea of Cortez to the green.

Wow i asked this exact question last week and got 0 replies.

We just got back from Riu. I can honestly say the food was subpar. Mass prepared. Cold food. Breads were terrible. pizza was awful. We liked the soft serve ice cream and tortilla chips.
Japanese restaurant was the pretty good.
At the Steakhouse the tenderloin was decent the ribeye was horrible.
Corona is their only choice for beers. Bartenders were cool and the alcohol was definitely plentiful.
Make sure your room is away from the construction that is going on.
Finally don't get in the water at the beach. It goes from calm to 6 ft waves with undertow pretty quickly.

Lovers beach is pretty cool. $10 water taxi ride from the resort.

I stayed at the Sheraton and the food there was very good but overpriced.

I didn't think that the sand was bad even compared to Cancun. I mean it is still 100x better than South Padre. But the undertow is very strong. I was a swimmer in HS and I have to admit it is still very strong. Playa Medano is where it is at though. Get a beach chair at Mango Deck and enjoy. I never ate the Office -- it is almost the same bar as Mango Deck (never could tell where one ended and the other began). Did the Office serve food? We usually ended up going back to our hotel, shower and then back to town.

ALso rent a car. You'll use it enough. unless of course you are staying at Melia San Lucas.
