I certainly can't speak for Teddy Pendergrass, but I suspect he might rest a bit more easily if he and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes were remembered as being a major part of TSOP, The Sound of Philadelphia, rather than being credited to MoTown.
Both are wonderful American musical traditions for sure, with TSOP being more, I think, purely soulful per se, while MoTown was great Soul Music infused with a healthy and, I believe, defining amount of Pop.
Please forgive the anality of my analysis and RIP Teddy; however, if we don't know him by now, we may never, never know him.
I just thought such an easily made error in artistic affiliation would have been regrettable, had it passed uncorrected.
