Alan Rickman has had many roles but to me he will always be Professor Severus Snape from Harry Potter.

Our two boys were pretty big into Harry Potter several years ago, and my wife and I watched all of the movies with them. This week we decided to watch them all again, one each night. Last night it was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, third in the series. Fun movies.

My preference was Die Hard - which i think was his first film?
He deserved an Oscar nod for that role
The greatest part of which, IMO, was when he switched to his fake American accent -- loved it!

RIP

He was Die Hard's villain in velvet. He effortlessly kept Severus Snape's motivations in a nebula. RIP Mr. Rickman.

Col. Brandon in Sense and Sensibility.

SaS is really an understated masterpiece and by far the best Jane Austen movie ever in cinema or TV - definitely in my top 10 all-time favorites. And Rickman as honourable/humble/strong/heroic Col. Brandon is truly superb.

I'm pretty sad about this. I think when Duvall passes away I'll feel the same way because even though they've both played mobsters and terrorists in other more popular movies, Colonel Brandon and Gus are perhaps the two fictional characters I most identify with and aspire to live up to.
