I loved the Everly Brothers' harmonies. I read once that the Beatles copied that harmony style. I loved the early Beatles harmonies as well so I'll buy it.
Simon & Garfunkel have always acknowledged being influenced by Phil and Don.
I saw S&G and the Everlys at the Erwin Center about ten years ago.
Don and Phil didn't open the show.
They came out halfway through and S&G introduced them, saying what a huge influence they were.
Don and Phil sang only four songs, one was "Bye Bye Love" with S&G.
Many in the audience would've liked to have heard more, but S&G's large catalog (both together and as individual artists) was the reason most folks were there.
"Wake Up Little Susie," "All I Have To Do Is Dream" and "Let It Be Me" were the other three songs the brothers performed.
The way the show was arranged, with Don and Phil as featured artists and S&G as their "Bookends," was not lost on me.
Perhaps, the age or the health of the brothers was a limiting factor, but it was very plain that S&G strongly felt the Everlys were their equal in musical stature and lasting influence even if not in current popularity or total career output.
The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel sounded great.
