RIP Paul Harvey

I have so many fond memories of him and his show. Rest in peace, indeed. The story is not ever over. I will always remember him.

This would be like Austin, nay Texas, losing Cactus Pryor.

I think his format will continue. In the past half year I've heard someone doing it for him with great fidelity. I don't think it was Mike Huckabee, who sounds a lot like him.

Imagine all that he saw and experienced having been born in 1919.

About once every four or five years I'd come across his radio program while traveling by car across the country. I'd always listen as long as the signal held out. I didn't always agree with him, but what a decent fellow. Sad that I won't hear that voice again.

Good Day and good night, Paul.

He was a good man and a gentleman. I have very clear memories of first hearing him as a young kid in the early 60's when my mother drove me and my brother around Fort Worth....I also have memories of hearing him report the news throughout my life. I will miss him.

RIP Paul Harvey

It's a bit sad. He was old. I never searched out his show, but found it listen-to-able when it was on. He definitely was a one of a kind.

PS- Who's Cactus Pryor?

A true legend that was an honor to listen to. I am thankful he had a long life. Unfortunately, most felt he would go soon after losing his wife last year. God Bless Paul and his family.

A.Bettick - I believe you heard Ron Chapman fill in for PH over the past year or so. Chapman, now retired, was a long time & legendary DJ on KLIF, KVIL and KLUV in Dallas.

And now, Page Two!

Probably one of the most distinguishable voices in American radio history. He and Walter Cronkite were also the most trusted people in the news business. Having worked in radio and having carried his program for years, I remember him fondly, because he was the type of person that anyone could listen to and know they were getting the news and not some political hack job. Yeah, he had his views, but he didn't brow beat you with them.

Incidentally, his son, Paul Harvey Jr. (who wrote most all newscasts and also wrote the "Rest of the Story" segments), who sounds remarkably like his father, has been doing the broadcasts for his father for the last few months. I would wager that he would continue to do so. I will be interested to hear tomorrow's broadcast to see what type of tribute that play.

R.I.P. to a great man and a great great broadcaster.

Another 60's kid who grew up listening to PH. My mom preferred the radio for her news, during the am and daytime. WFAA/WBAP.

Thanks Worsterman.

My only anecdote (not PH's) to add is that I flew to Aspen once in 1993 to climb Mt. Elbert (well not just for that...). On the way out from Aspen I caught bits of Paul Harvey while video taping the aspens and pines along the road. The hike was surprisingly easy, about 3-4 hours up. It snowed on the way down, common for late August. I realized I could have climbed Mt. Elbert as a day trip from and to Austin...

I thought I just heard that Gil Gross would be his replacement??

Of course Paul Harvey Jr. would be the right choice. Followed by Ron Chapman who does an excellent job.
