RIP Keith Jackson

Growing up in the 1970s, it wasn't New year's Day without college football and hearing him on one of the games through the day.

RIP to the legend of college football announcers. Along with 4th and 5, I loved his comment after the hit in the Notre Dame game. "The important thing right now is to make sure Randy Kinder can find a place to lay down."

Keith Jackson was the Gold Standard. For my money there hasn’t been anyone close for many many years.

What an honor to have had Jackson, in his last game, call the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Enjoyed his down home style for so many years. Don't think his last game turned out quite like he wanted.
Yep. Love Keith Jackson, but he told Texas players they didn't know what they were in store for when they played Michigan in that first Rose Bowl (like Texas really didn't know how to handle it). Won't ever forget it. Then he had to watch Vince and company win another for the title. GREAT announcer (the greatest)......When I saw that clip of him "lecturing" Texas players I thought "buddy, this is Texas, they've got this".....

It's tough to watch time pass like this. I go all the way back to Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson (and the great Prudential half-time scoreboard) calling the games on ABC. Curt Gowdy and Lindsey Nelson. Jackson was part of the landscape. A great soothing voice that made the game and those moments in my life very enjoyable. RIP.

Only 2 announcers that belong at the very top:

TV=Keith Jackson
Radio=Kern Tips

No one else even close...RIP Keith Jackson
Yes, I agree^^^. And thanks for mentioning the great Kern Tips. I haven't heard that name in a long time.

Kieth and Kern were just wonderful. They, and I hope this doesn't sound weird, were artists in a way. They were able to expand the game, to somehow make it even bigger, and better, and add to the fun of watching and listening.

RIP

His natural God given talent and the fact that he was answerable only to Humble Oil who knew they had lightening in a bottle, made for decades of great broadcasting. My personal favorite, was him describing great weather conditions, "the track is fast and the sky is dry"!
