I told the story of Jack Lucas last night while hanging out with my neighbors and we all raised our drinks and thanked him one last time.

As the son of an 85 year old WWII Veteran, Mr. Lucas's story hits very close to home for me. My dad is dying in a personal home care facility right now and hearing this story yesterday broke me down. My dad served in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and if you ask him, he will tell you that he loved every minute of it and would do it again if he had to. I aksed my dad about military honors at his funeral and he said no. He said he knew what he did and that was good enough for him.
