Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone and several Disney movies. I had the whole get up as a kid, the coonskin cap, rifle and knife.
I still have that toy knife. Its on a shelf next to my Hopalong Cassidy mug. Adios to a boyhood hero.
I was right there at ground zero, aged 5 or 6 when the Davy Crockett Disney shows came out. This was like Star Wars of today. We had to have the hats, the rifles, the buckskin shirts and the toys, the books, lunchboxes, you name it. It was a national mania.
RIP to Fess Parker, glad he had a long and seemingly happy and successful life. Didn't realize he was 6' 6" tall.
The obit said he grew up on a farm near San Angelo-anyone know what town was nearest there? Also, it mentioned a near-fatal stabbing after a road rage incident in the forties. I had never heard of that before.
In the Great Locomotive Chase he stole a train and tore up tracks across the south while being chased by another train, The Texas, engineered by one of my other favorites, Slim Pickens.
