We will miss you and your cooking, Dot. I had many a great meal at Dot's Place over the years. It was so sad to see the restaurant close last year. She was a great old gal. My favorite was the catfish.
Yes, at first it was in a trailer over off of Howard Lane. But the place burned down and they relocated in a strip mall in Pflugerville in a regular restaurant location. I'm sure it was a tremendous increase in overhead.
They did serve great southern home cooking, and were always nice people to talk with.
Are you saying that the owner passed away? Sad news, I knew they had closed the location. Maybe a health problem had something to do with closing (?).
I forgot about the ramshackle old building, which was originally a BBQ joint. That is the building that suffered the kitchen fire, and then Dot got the trailer to keep the business going, serving the same great food in to go containers. I can taste those butter potatoes right now.
What a great bit of nostalgia for me. I graduated and left Austin 20 years ago, and this was a place that I only visited once or twice but it remained somewhere in memory as one of those really cool experiences I had while living there.
