He was married to Barbara Hershey back when she was ultra hippie and called herself Barbara Hershey Seagull. Lots of acid is my guess.

Suicide @ 73? Very odd. Pure speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised to discover he had a terminal disease like cancer. He's been a chain smoker for about 50 years.

We were at Shady Grove a couple of years back listening to some band, and he came walking right into our little picnic area. We sat around for awhile yukking it up with him, drinking beer. He joked that his badass cowboy boots were made out of humpback whale.
