Rio Grande Restaurant (old Real World house)

yeah, i have to say that i've had some ******* delicious mexican food in santa fe. abundance of green chiles and blue corn aren't what i'm used to, but i've enjoyed some great meals there.

and it's nice to be able to get green chiles on ANYTHING you order anywhere, even on your burger at mcdonalds.

Is Colorado Mexican food the same thing as New Mexican?

I'm not saying the thing will fail because the food is neccessarily bad - I have no idea on that front. Its just that we're a prideful bunch here, with a reputation for great hoemgrown Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants. It seems unlikely that locals will flock to a restaurant purveying that sort of food which is a chain from a place not generally known as a mecca of Mexican food.

To me it'd be like Katz's trying to open up a franchise in Manhattan.

It's close to the convention center so people from all around the country will base their opinion of Tex Mex on a Colorado chain.

unfortunately, you're right on.

i think my disdain also stems from a mexican food (notice I didn't say 'tex mex") joint I ventured into while in Morgantown, West Virginia one lonely, misguided evening. it was called Rio Grande.

I wonder if that's the same place as the Rio Grande Cafe in Arlington, Virginia. Texans in DC would say it was the best Tex-Mex in the DC area. That obviouslly meant all the Tex-Mex in the DC area sucked because the Rio Grande Cafe sucked.

It is not the same as the Rio Grande in DC. I am surprised of the comments about the quality of the food. The Rio's in Colorado are known for their atmosphere and margaritas, but the food is awful.

I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob, and won't eat at chain restaurants typically. That said, ate there last week with coworkers, and it was really good. Guac was fresh, queso and salsa was good. Their enchiladas hit the spot.

I was getting excited about the green chiles. But the poster above is correct, what the hell are shrimp fajitas? Sounds like something Nick Lachey would order.

Oh for the love of god, whatever you need to call it that won't be offensive to you... the-grilled-seasoned-shrimp-wrapped-in-a-tortilla-with-guacamole-and-salsa was good.

had lunch there today. Cool place inside.

had the steak and eggs and a margarita. $10. Hit the spot. Rice was REALLY good and black beans were tasty. Homemade tortillas were baddass.

WIll try it for dinner/happy hour at some point.

Tried it on Saturday (my teenagers wanted to go). I was pleasantly surprised. No, it's not the best mexican food I've ever had (I'll save that designation for Javier's in Dallas), but it was good. The margaritas were very good.
