Rio Grande Raft

Thinking about taking my 10 year old son on an overnight, or two, through Santa Elena this summer. Thoughts? I've spent several nights down in the Big Bend, but never done the river. Am I wrong to take him at his age? He's fine with the outdoor part.

Should be fine if you have a good guide service. The flow will probably be a bit low in the Summer. And it's freaking hot on the river.

If the flow is low you'll probably be on canoes, not rafts. A 10-year old can probably handle a canoe, but don't expect him to do too much.

It's fun. The river is not impressive at all, but the sights are. We stopped and had lunch on the Mexican side.

I thought we weren't supposed to go into Mexico. Oh well....

It is going to be HOT and if the water is low it won't be much fun for a 10 year old. I'd go to Colorado for rafting during that time of year.
