Ricky Williams to be honored

"Ricky Williams runs to the Hall of Fame!!!"

I know people have their opionions about Brent Musberger, but his call on this run is legendary. And if I'm not mistaken, he was also the one who did the Roll Left call which was a pretty good call as well, much better than the other UT play that sticks out in my mind with these two plays, where Keith Jackson seemed like he was already on autopilot. KJ didn't do a great job of capturing the moment on VY's legendary, historic run in my eyes, but Musbergers call on Ricky's run is fantastic.

Seriously, what do you expect UT to do? Obviously, they are going to put as positive a spin on this as possible. He's obviously had a lot of personal issues. And, I wish he would have dealt with them differently. But, his accomplishment at the college level including coming back for the Heisman are undeniable.

I have to say there is no other Longhorn, other than Vince, that I enjoyed watching play than Ricky. The number of times that the he flew horizontally to the end zone carry a defender on his back was unbelievable. It seemed that if he even got a glimpse of the end zone, he would not be denied.

His back to back 300 yard games were fantastic. His performance at Neb that warranted a standing O from the opposing fans was awesome.

I remember going to the A&M game for the sole reason of counting down the yards until he surpassed the single season record. I figured the Aggies would stack the line just to deny him. But, in the first half, only 9 yards away from the record, he broke off one of the most memorable runs in college history - not only breaking the record but going the distance.

Ricky - Thanks for the memories and coming back for your senior season. Congrats, 10 years hence, on your well deserved Heisman. And, best wishes for you in the rest of your life.

No doubt, welcome back Ricky. Enjoy Austin. You helped put us back on the map where we belong. The map aggy wishes they could be on and were when they cheated...yet again.

Great news about Ricky! I hope it gives him what it takes to reassemble his life and fulfill his potential.

I have no problem with Ricky Williams as a representative of UT. He had issues in his younger days, and he made some mistakes. But he's older and clearly more mature now. He's used his time away from football wisely. He's making the effort, and that says a lot about what he has learned from his recent experiences. So I don't see it as the university trying to put positive spin on something. I see it as the university celebrating a Longhorn legend.

The beginning of my life as a longhorn began in 1998. Ricky summed up what 1998 meant to me. I was there at the Freshman orientation, when they brought Ricky up to speak to us. He talked about what The University meant to him, and why he chose to come back for his final year.

THe memories of 1998-1999 are overwhelming, to say the least. So many thing happened in that stretch that literally directed me to being the person I am today. But Ricky Williams (and Major Applewhite and Mack Brown, both 1st year additions to the Longhorns in 1998) are the keystones to my affection for The University of Texas Longhorns Football Program. It was the begging of Mack's career. It was the begging of my addiction and infatuation with our football program. WIthout Ricky, I do not know where I, or our team, would be today.

Hat's off to all the memories. I remember clutching my Rum and Coke in the stadium on that 60 yard scramble for the record & TD. It shut up the aggys around us for the remainder of the game, and it provided me with a great story for my kids.

Ricky:

I won't be able to make it to your 10 year celebration, but I am standing, applauding and yelling!!!!!!!!

Way to go and thanks for a being a Longhorn!!!! I don't care what anybody says, I am proud to call you a Longhorn!!!!

What a story book way to capture the record. You couldn't script it any better than that.

Not to change subjects but am I the only one that misses having an awsome fullback like Ronnie Brown? As far as fullbacks go that guy was amazing!

Holy cow....10 years.

I remember it like yesterday. I was on the 30 yd line on the east side 32 rows up. What a freaking play for the record. About the only thing I remember louder in that stadium was the '90 Houston game.

you mean ricky brown, from arlington high i believe. yes he was a great FB. also nice to see pics of jay humphrey, roger roesler, russ gaskamp, et al. that was a great line.
