Rick Barnes sees it for what it is

I believe DeLoss is doing his Jay Carney impression as the team will not be that much more experienced next season so why can anyone expect much more?

BTW, you can substitute Augie for Barns and the article would be just as correct and with the same issue.

I think Barnes figured the Lanier hire would solve a lot of the continuity problems. And it sort of did... from the standpoint of getting rid of the guys who were a drag on the continuity.

Watching the Lanier teams from 1999-2001 that had decent regular seasons but crappy postseasons, it's obvious that we're not even close to that level of commitment, work ethic, fundamentals, etc. We hid a lot of our deficiencies with solid defense, ok guard play, and monster post play thanks to the best center we've ever had. Now, we have none of that, and Barnes is stripping the parts that don't fit those descriptors. Felix, Papapetrou, and Lammert are steps in the right direction in terms of role players, but none of them are all stars. Ridley was supposed to fill the post hole, but the jury's out on whether he'll be able to do that.

The 2013-14 class of freshmen is supposed to address the guard play, but it's kind of like throwing darts at the moment. There's a lot of redundancy in this class, with Walker picking up the pieces that Croaker doesn't possess, and Taylor filling the same role for Harris. If Barnes can show that these guys will play in a defensive system and not shoot worse than 35 percent, we're already a step in the right direction. I still fully expect to go about 15-18 again next year, but that's actually a step up considering what the 2012-13 team should have accomplished.

From reading Barnes' comments re NBA talent on his team, I got a sense that he was trying to take a stab at Ridley when he said that Ibeh would make a NBA roster. I wonder if this correlates to the infamous doghouse or if it relates to Ridley indeed leaving.
