Rice Pitching Today

Wayne Graham has been playing close to the vest with his pitching all weekend and surprisingly if the Owls can piece together a win against Lafayette with some midweek scrubs in the afternoon, they may well have Ojala tonight and their ace Taylor Wall who only threw 43 pitches yesterday should a game seven be necessary on Monday.

We are set with Taylor Jungmann tonight and that is the best possible situation but if Rice gets by Louisiana they will not be a pushover with a tired staff. If Rice gets out early on the Cajuns wouldnt surprise me if they pulled their starter (assuming it is Ojala and not some mid week scrub) early again. Graham is playing for the regional not to win a particular game which is dangerous but may be only chance Rice has.

We really need the bats to be alive tonight.

Jared Rogers.

I think Wayne has to pitch more than some weekday scrubs. He can save pitchers all day long but if he doesnt make the next games, who cares.

I dont care who wins, I just hope the sun comes out soon and the first game today goes 13-14 innings.

ULaLa's web site says it's Ojala vs. Taylor Hubbell today in game 1. Graham definitely did the right thing pulling Wall early against Rider. Boogie Anognostou would be the 4th starter.

I am going to the Rice - La. Laf. game, I know it is fricking hot out there but I am going for awhile. Whoever plays Texas tonight, Texas will need to score some runs, both of these teams are pretty solid.

Rice just put a seven spot on the board in top of fourth. Ojala has pitched first three innings and faced 11 batters. Interesting to see how far Wayne goes with him.

Rice has only given up 2 runs so far in their 3 games...sure like for LALA to come back...but wouldn't bet on it...

8-0 Rice in the 7th and Ojala is still in there. Whenever he's done for this game, he's probably done for the weekend.

9-1 Rice and Ojala has been in entire game. That means tonight will be Jungmann v a number 4 starter. Horns have advantage today and better get it done because Rice will have advantage if this goes to Monday with Taylor Wall on the mound against some combination of Milner, Thomas and Ruffin in from 7th inning on.

I just got back from the game, Rice pitcher was outstanding in the heat. Rice is a hitting machine, everyone batting over .300 in their lineup except a freshman who is batting .283 with 10 homers. They are well coached and they do not swing at bad pitches and they do not make errors. Hopefully Taylor is on because Rice has no weaknesses. Here is to Texas clinching tonight.

Well Texas should have hte pitching advantage. As well as the rest advantage. Smart move by Rice to leave their starter in so they can save their bullpen for later game tonight.

I am definitely worried about playing Rice as they have already faced Jungmann this season. As a result, I expect Rice to change their hitting approach against Taylor. He can't make mistakes against Rice's lefty hitters like Seastrunk, Sultzbaugh, Mozingo, etc. If those guys are held in check, we win. It's also imperative that Keyes not swing at curveballs/sliders off the outside corner as those are the pitches he whiffs. It seems like when Keyes gets 1+ hits, our offense really gets going. We need to make the Rice pitcher throw strikes. Patience at the plate will lead us to victory tonight.

Damn, I hope we kick the Owls' asses tonight.

Rice usually plays Texas tough, I don't expect any difference tonight, a 1 run win sounds good to me but No extra innings. Texas should have the advantage in pitching but Rice only threw 1 pitcher today which should help them. Amazing as hot and humid as it was that he threw 9 innings. I had to leave after 7 innings because i was drained from just sitting out in the heat.

Rice coaches were giving the umpires hell today early, I am not sure what happened but there was a 5 to 10 minute delay?

Stay positive, guys. We have our No.1 rested and ready going against their No.4? We also have a bullpen that has done nothing but twiddle its thumbs all weekend, save for our closer, who is still fresh and fiery.

Bottom line: the deck is stacked in our favor. If we lose, it's because we deserved to.

Now get out there and BEAT THE HELL outta dem Owls!
