Rice-LSU

LSU strikes with a "big-inning" in the fifth and is now boiling Rice to the tune of, 7-4. Ojala and Wall were both chased in the fifth; Reckling now on the mound of the Owls.

Even if Rice can't come back to win this one, I wouldn't put money against them. They still have Berry in pocket; they also were in a similar situation last week versus K-State and found a way to advance.

Heeding torre's acclamations, the Tigers tack on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rice now trails, 9-4, in the top of the seventh.

Rice plates a pair in the top of the eighth, but LSU is threatening in the bottom of the inning: the Tigers have two on with nobody out. Their lead is 9-6.

The Owls get three more in the top of the ninth, but not before surrendering a trio to LSU in the bottom of the eighth. In other words, the Tigers win a shootout, 12-9.

Dunno enough about LSU to say who benefits most from having to delve deep into their bullpens. Obviously, by virtue of winning today, LSU holds a tremendous advantage, but will it be enough?

LSU wins Saturday, 5-3, and advances to Omaha with a two-game sweep over the Owls.

Surprising that both of Rice's aces bombed. That was the difference. I didn't get to see Ojala pitch Friday, but watching Berry Saturday was painful. The game might've been in Baton Rouge, but his control was somewhere in Mississippi.
