Rhode Island Game

I really think Chapman is going to finally live up to expectations this year. Most have prob forgotten, but he looked like a real badass when he was recruited.

Really nice run after the botched fast break that turned into an alley-oop slam by McClellan. Hopefully this will create enough distance.

A strong outing from Brown - 35 pts, 6 rebs, 6 assts & 0 TOs.

I tend to agree with Kirk Bohls. Brown will probably hit around 30 points a game and/or take 30 shots trying.

Defense was poor at times. We're going to have some growing pains with zone rotation, especially with the freshmen out there.

This looks like a great Texas team. These freshmen are outstanding and with Chapman an unassuming 5 this team will be in contention in every game they play. Kabongo is smooth as silk.

This game today was called very close and Texas received lots of close calls. The trick is to survive close games when you aren't receiving these calls. Looks like an exciting season.

Durant and Tristan Thompson and Dexter and Corey Joseph were there. That plus me was about half the attendance. We look like we could round out into a good team.

A team can rely on freshmen. Problem is, we have no depth of upperclassmen. Our veteran and best player can go J'crazy at times. Don't get me wrong. I love JCB and have since he got here. He has always been a great scorer and passer and appears to have matured. But this team is lacking in upperclassmen, and that lack of experience will rear its ugly head a time or two.

Also, this team will be ****** against legitmate inside presences.

I'm assuming that those that left early last year still have bank (from their agents) even though they aren't getting paid by the NBA. That being said, what an effing travesty that we lose three really good players to a league that won't have a season this year.

We do look like a good, not great, team. It's weird that the script flips with Texas every couple of years. One year we have several big men but no true point. One year we can't hit the broad side of a broad at the line. One year we have 4 outside scoring threats but nothing in the middle. That dude from Kansas will score 50 points on this team.

I feel your pain Knox. My annual whine is always that Barnes' only negative is not having players that want to stick around long enough for a real shot at a title. Every year it just seems worse, but this year - OMG. In addition to the fact that they aren't gonna get to play anyway, I see unc a deserved #1, & can't quit thinking didn't we beat these guys fairly convincingly last year???

Oh, what coulda been.....

I didn't get a chance to watch this game, because I'm one of those rare people that don't have access to the LHN . . .

. . . but this strikes me (from the highlights) as a team similar to our "Running Horns" teams of years ago that will try to outscore teams rather than depend upon the grind-it-out defensive approach. Either way, the team is built on youth and plenty of talent. They'll be capable of embarrassing the opponent one night, and themselves on others. Should be a fun season - expectations are lower than they've been in years.

Only two games in, but good signs relative to last season:

1. Assist to turnover ratio is great this year.

2. FT% is up.

3. FG% is good.

4. J. Brown has grown up. Barnes must be one of the most patient coaches in the country to have put up with Brown's BS the past two years. When Brown signs with the NBA, he should give half the dough to Rick and his staff.

5. It doesn't look as if we'll be seeing a 4 on 5 offensive for most of the game as we did with Balbay.

Two negatives:

1. No size.

2. Giving up far too many offensive rebounds, something which can be improved, but not eliminated, with coaching.

I like this team primarily because these guys ARE going to stick around. They have talent but aside from Myck (and he has plenty to learn as well) they are going to stick around for at least 3 years.
