RF remote control converter

I moved into my house about a month ago. We have a pool so we're spending every waking moment outdoors. I splurged and bought some outdoor bose speakers and hooked 'em up to my receiver.

The problem I had was that I had to go in the house to change the volume. I did a bit of internet based research and found a product that converts the receiver's remote to transmit an RF signal.

I just got it in the mail and it took about 15 minutes to hook up. It has a RF transmitter that holds a battery. You place the RF transmitter in one of the battery slots in your remote. The casing then serves as the RF transmitter and remote battery. Cool design. The remote then communicates with an RF receiver that's a component of the product. The RF receiver converts the RF signal to an infrared signal that the stereo receiver can interpret.

Problem solved. Now, I can literally spend every waking moment in the pool as long as I can convince the wife to get me beers.

RF remote control converter

As I was researching these types of gadgets, I saw that there were a couple of options: replace the entire remote or get a converter.

The RF remotes were $100+. The converters were around $50. I found this one for $45. There may be less expensive ones out there but I didn't dedicate a massive amount of time.

I have been using that one for about 3 years as I have all of my audio/dvd/stb in another room in the house than the main TV and it has worked awesome.

I have two RF remote controls (Harmony 890s), one for the main floor TV and surround sound, and one for the basement projector and surround sound. They never interfere with each other, and they work great.
