Resuming 114-year old rivalry with TCU

I was initially disappointed with the news of the addition of TCU to the Big 12, but if we have/want to add another Texas-based team to replace the departing aggys, TCU is a good choice.

We started playing TCU in 1897, three years after we started playing the aggys, three years before we started playing the Sooners, and four years before we started playing Baylor. We missed a few years at the turn of the century, but then played TCU every year from 1927 until the end of the SWC. (60-20-1 record).

We bash A&M for tossing century-old rivalries in the trash heap, and rightfully so. Here's a chance for us to resume one.

That's a long, rich tradition in playing these cockroaches. They'll do for now.

TCU is a much improved school academically. It has become pretty hard to get into. They have upgraded their facilities and stadium and they have been getting 45k plus to their games the last two seasons, better than Baylor. They also hold a lot of TX football lore and have rich football tradition and have been a fixture in the top 25 for the last 10 years. They are a good pick up and this move will improve their recruiting and team. they have a nutty but good coach.

Some will call the addition of TCU as...

.. but we could do worse. Plus, our long 'rivalry' with them will give the sportscasters something to talk about for at least a quarter of the game.

Color me unimpressed with the addition. I love tradition as much as the next college football fan, but getting to play TCU again every year doesn't get me fired up. I'm sure their fan base will love it because it gives them a chance to hate Texas again on a yearly basis, but there is no way it makes the Big XII a better conference long term and it will not be a consistent seat-filler at DKR.

Then again, if you don't believe the Big XII has a long-term future, adding TCU might be a good thing.

TCU hasd been a consistent top 25 program for the last 10 years which is better than 1/2 the schools in the big 12 can say.

TCU's record would put them third best in the Big XII over the past decade. They have more top 5 and top ten finishes then all but Texas and OU since the formation of the Big XII and more BCS wins then all but Texas and OU since the formation of the Big XII.

Are they better than having aggy, no, but are they acceptable as a ninth or tenth team to fill up the conference certainly. I just wish I still lived in Fort Worth and could basically fall out of my bed once every two years and be at a Horn game. Plus the baseball is a tremendous addition.

but getting to play TCU again every year doesn't get me fired up.

I like it. tCU has made tremendous progress athletically over the last 10 years. I used ti live in an adjacent neighborhood and watched them build a new ballpark, track, soccer facility, and renovate Amon Carter. As mentioned above, their record would rank them 3rd in the Big 12 over the last decade.

Old tradition renewed.

Welcome, Horned Frogs.

Oh, one more thing...we do jot need help to fill DKR. But I bet we fill Amon Carter...every other year!

I agree with DKR - cockroaches!

But they have had some pretty good football and baseball teams lately - probably better than aggy. So welcome, TCU. You belong here more than you do in the Big East!
