restrictions on coach in waiting?

Can anyone clarify what I think I heard this morning on 104.9, I think it was E Hogan, saying that the NCAA is going to hold "coaches in waiting" to the same recruiting limits as head coaches?

It is true and was apparently announnced 2 weeks ago is total BS.

My guess is the majority don't like the coach in waiting concept and wish like hell that those who have it were on the open market.

This is a great way to disuade others from doing it and hurt those who have.

At the least they should "grandfather" the two coaches who had the title before the rule was passed.

Typical NCAA horse manure.

It makes since, when you consider how many restrictions the actual head coach has. But its dumb because now people will just start naming a coach in waiting behind closed doors and not make it public to the media. The players that they are recruiting will know though.

What a crock. I'd like for them to look at how Alabama, Florida and other likeminded schools sign a ton and then fail to renew scholarships on other players, thereby treating like an NFL preseason camp.

How does this HCIW do anything but show the recruit that there's stability down the road?

I never even heard that this was an "issue" other than it being a big gamble for schools from a financial/PR concern. That's the risk you take with that.

This rule doesnt level any playing field. All it does it frustrate Texas and cause us to tie a hand behind our back in recruiting.

Expect the HCIW tag to be pulled this year from Boom's title with some convincing story, but he doesn't leave.

Frack the NCAA.

Next time im gonna need you to show this before you say something like thatThe Link
Give me a break bro. I typed that in about 15 seconds. Next time i'll make sure to come find you so you can proof read all of my posts. Better yet, why don't you proof read every single thread and call out every single person because im sure you'll be able to flash your newly acquired badge.

Its ******** that he's getting singled out (seems like they would have done this with Jimbo fisher) but i had a feeling something like this would be implemented.

It's going to be difficult to enforce, since I doubt Muschamps official title is: "Head coach in waiting, Defensive Coordinator, Linebackerrs coach"

It is obviously a dig at Texas and our DC. If it were USC or Oklahoma nothing would be done. Inconsistency. I must remind you again: Us against the World. That is how we must look at it.

Don't worry about the corrections adUT. I have been corrected myself and I just take it as constructive criticism and generally correct my post. The main thing is getting toughts, opinions and information than worrying about perfect grammar and spelling which sometimes occurs when we are hasty to get out information.

Position coach to prospect, "Yeah, Coach Muschamp looks forward to meeting you, too, but you know about the UT rule, right? No? Oh- it's kind of cool. The NCAA thinks we have an unfair advantage because we already know who our next great coach will be even after Coach Brown retires. So they passed a rule saying Coach Boo-- er Coach Muschamp counts as a Head Coach in recruiting. Haha, we think it's funny, too. As we like to say, IDMAS, which stands for It Don't Make A Difference."

Until USC is punished for Reggie Bush, every rule change that comes out of the NCAA should be ignored.

This is a total screwjob aimed solely at The University of Texas. There are only two, that's right two, head coaches in waiting, Maryland and Texas. Maryland's recruiting won't cause any schools to lose sleep. So who does that leave?
This is a rule intended to screw Texas, plain and simple.
We aren't cheating-we don't have an extra assistant coach out there, all we have is one assistant with a different job title.
What business is it of the NCAA to clamp down on this egregious offense? Ridiculous control-mongering back-stabbing poltroons at their worst.
UT will have to claim that Muschamp is no longer the "Coach in Waiting." We should start calling him the Emeritus Defensive Co-ordinator Formerly Called the Head Coach in Waiting."
Hey, NCAA, how about enforcing rules against cheating, like free houses at USC, pay for not working at OU, athletes cheating in academics at Florida State, you know, things that actually are unfair advantages.
Every school has the same number of assistant coaches, and they want to limit two of them in their recruiting visits compared to the 118 other schools? Give me a break.
I usually support the NCAA, I know it is hard to get the goods on schools which cheat, but this is a real slap in the face.

But its dumb because now people will just start naming a coach in waiting behind closed doors and not make it public to the media.

Yeah but then if it's mentioned to a recruit and he comes forward with the information your in NCAA hot water.

I wonder if some Big 12 schools complained to the NCAA after Boom (and other coaches), was able to snatch up Hicks.
Just a thought.

Texas likes to be up-front and above-board in conducting its football business, and this rule will force UT to resort to legal chicanery. We will most likely tear up Muschamp's contract and go back to calling him an assistant coach, with a handshake Head Coach in Waiting title.
And of course, no school will ever publically name a Head Coach in Waiting again because of this arbitrary and capricious anti-UT rule. They will call them something else and hide their true status.
Way to go NCAA, you just forced schools to lie about their coaches' employment status.

The question about this "rule" - like any rule from any "governing" body - is whether we (whoever "we" are) have in deed granted the authority to make such a rule.

My opa put it this way to me: "Butch, if those idiots in Austin pass a new law saying that a tail is thereby a leg, that doesn't mean that your dog now has five legs."

Brilliant!!

So are there any legal beagles out there that can answer my question?

Does this NCAA ruling (which was supposedly submitted by the Sun Belt Conference - huh?) have any kind of legs?

Is Mack Brown still the head coach at Texas? Yes. Is Coach Muschamp the Head coach at Texas? No. Are we talking semantics here? As some have said, "maybe we should fire Coach Blood as Coach in Waiting" and give him a $100,000 raise. WTF?

Competitive advantage? We certainly shouldn’t do anything that would give us a competitive advantage. In fact, if you want to play D1 football you should have to go through the NCAA so they can divide everyone up equally by talent. All head coaches make $500K. Fixed and equal athletic budgets. No on-side kickoffs to start a half. We don’t want anyone to ever have a competitive advantage.

But, create a rule that gives everyone else a competitive advantage over the only two schools that it applies to….oh sure. That makes sense too.

I MIGHT be OK with this rule if they also banned all other NCAA schools from offering a job to the “head-coach-in-waiting”. Until they do that he ain’t really a head coach, and no one really knows what the future holds.

This is all so stupid it is difficult to even have a meaningful conversation on the topic.

Just take his title away no big deal, right?
Eveybody want's to be #1 in there state but, no one want's Texas #1 in there own state. Like ou ,osu, osu, ohio and, ect.
