Yep, the Horns kept him on a win diet, but afterwards he comforted himself with All-You-Can-Eat at the Rib Crib in Norman. By the way, I think he came to Oklahoma in the first place because the Sooner team colors reminded him of barbecue sauce. Too bad he didn’t listen to Jerritt. Did you catch their pre-game chat?
Restrepo: Jerritt, you’re looking good, man! How many pounds did you drop?
Elliott: Thirty.
Restrepo: That’s impressive! I could lose 3 or 4 pounds myself. How did you do it?
Elliot: Well, there’s two main things. First off, I ate less.
Restrepo: Oh. Well, that’s gonna be pretty tough. I love that All-You-Can-Eat breakfast at Ozzie’s Diner. Biscuits, gravy, bacon. Sometimes I even eat pie after breakfast! How about, maybe some kind of all protein diet, eat as much as you want?
Elliott: Well, no. The other thing, of course, is exercise more.
Restrepo: Well, not sure that’s gonna happen, either. That’s it, that’s all you got?
Elliott: Yep. Eat less. Exercise more.
Restrepo: I’m not too wild about your diet, Jerritt. Not very creative.
Elliott: Sorry. By the way, you’ve got some collard greens stuck between your teeth there.
And soon thereafter, the Horns picked up another road win. I really liked how the Horns put together this win.
Five girls hit for double-digits – nice! Jen Doris, is well, really stoked. She’s pounding the ball, and you gotta love it when a six-five girl lays out for a get! Rachael is all ridiculous altitude, angles and power, and my fave was the one she crushed off Hannah’s one handed set in the 2nd frame. We got Amber soaring up out of the pipe, and blasting angles past double-blocks! Sha’Dare doubled up, and really has her all-around game going on.
The passing seems to be steadying out. Sarah is getting more and more into the zone, and I can see why she was so highly regarded. Thank goodness she left Hawaii, skipped over those left coast schools and kept coming on to Texas, where we have dry land and really appreciate stellar liberos.
Juliann is awesome. She could beat you up if she wanted to, but frankly, I’m more impressed with her mental strength. She never, ever gives up, and I swear she could bend spoons with her mind if she wanted to. Probably even steel bars.
There were two amazing stretches. The first, of course, was the last part of the 2nd set, when the Horns fought off six set points. The ladies were down 21-24, and just dug in and would not quit. Land whale Restrepo got so red in the face, I thought his blow hole was clogged. Clutch plays all around, and the girls gutted out an epic win.
The second stretch was the 4th set comeback from an 8-16 hole. My favorite play of the night was in crunch time, 23-all. We were receiving serve, and Hannah started from the left corner. As the serve came over, she scooted towards her setting position, but the pass was off, so she had to streak back to the left side. She then back-set a bullet all the way over to the other pin, where Jen Doris was up off one foot and crushed it!
The easy play there is to just pop it up for the outside, but Hannah courageously said, “cheese off, easy way,” and made a play to go for the win. Of course the blockers were bamboozled, Jen put it home and we got to match point.
After that body blow, OU froze up, made an error, and the match was ours! Booyah! Restrepo was devastated, and the Rib Crib started up two more fires and called in an extra shift of cooks.
Our girls are playing with passion and athleticism. You gotta love it. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Texas Tech better bring their best stuff!
