Restaurant recommendations in far north Dallas

At the end of the month, I close on a house southeast of the bush and tollway intersection. I'm looking for restaurant recommendations in that area. We've already found good greek and chinese restaurants. I did a little research on an old thread here and found some pizza possibilities (carmine's and chicago rick's).

Any tex mex recommendations? I know.. I know... Dallas tex mex sucks. I've been living 4 blocks from mia's for a few years. But when you gotta have some, what's the best alternative in the area?

Sushi? Italian? Anything ya got. If it comes recommended by hornfans, chances are good that it's pretty good.

Well, there is a Patrizios on Preston and Park (the other is in highland park). Good italian food.

I really enjoy Kenny's woodfire grill on Beltline and the Tollway (next to Kobe Steaks). There is also a Houston's on Beltline and Tollway.

I believe most of the tex mex in that area is of the chain variety, but you would be hard pressed to find better chains that mi cocina and cantina laredo (both at frankford). There is also a blue fish at frankford and the tollway. There used to be a great sushi restaurant in the shops at willow bend, but it is no longer.

One of my favorite places to go is Obzeet. It is between Frankford and the Bush on Preston. Great patio. Great deserts. It is in the back of a pottery store and is pretty much awesome.

I've driven by obzeet and it looks interesting. I've heard that parking is a ***** and towing is common. It's on my list to check out.

If you go to Kenny's, make sure someone orders the shrimp. OMG.

Yeah, they finally started doing valet at Obzeet. About time.

sushi = NAAN.

you're welcome. maggiano's is chain italian in the area that is actually still good, though brinker has future plans to **** it up royally.

steve fields' for steaks.

I have been to banana leaf. it is good. although i wouldn't consider myself a thai expert.

lahacienda ranch is next door to there and it is a decent chain. a couple people in my family love it, but with all the tex mex choices in dallas i can't see how it would even make the top 20, but judge for yourself.

there is a blue goose there on preston and park too. snuffers (overated) too. it seems that many of the dallas originals have opened up affiliates in that southern plano, north dallas area. ones off the top of my head:

bobs
patrizios
blue goose
snuffers

For your Tex-Mex fix, I will suggest Mena's (in a shopping center, SE corner of Trinity Mills & Marsh) and even closer would be Berry Hill (NW corner, Preston & Frankford). Yes, Berry Hill is Tex-Mex and they have great fish tacos, very large.

Obzeet is great, I have lucked out and found parking a couple times.

I made my first trip to Hard Eight BBQ in Coppell a couple of weekends ago.

Ribs were fall-apart tender and outstanding. Although if you read reviews of the place, apparently YMMV.

Other than Angelo's in Fort Worth, it is my humble opinion that DFW BBQ sucks. Hard Eight tries to bring the feel of a Central Texas/Lockhart place to the Metroplex. It's a bit odd considering that the place is smack dab in the middle of a huge industrial park just north of D/FW Airport. But whatever, the meat was good.

Grew up right in that area....lots of chains but lots of good local stuff as well.

As for Tex Mex you have Luna de Noche at Preston and Plano Parkway and Uncle Julios and Cantina Laredo past Frandford on the Tollway.

Italian its Covinos and Covinos only. Corner of Parker and Coit. In the Corner, Its BYOB and one of my favorite places in all of Dallas. FYI it is Packed on the weekends. Very family friendly.

Also if you like greek go to Zorbas in the shopping center at Preston and Plano Parkway, really good and BYOB as well i think.

If you like cold beer head to the Plano Tavern at Parker and the Tollway. I think its from the same folks that own Bennigans but they run there draft beer out at like 32 degrees or something obsured like that. OK food, but the bar is above average.

There are a ton of joints up and down the tollway, lots of stuff now off of legacy. I never venture that high.

make obzeet your bar of choice. it's the only place in dallas that i've been to that feels like an austin bar.

Second the NAAN suggestion. Apparently a new sushi place in the shops of Legacy just opened called Ra.

Also, on Preston just north of 121, Terrillis... good Italchos...

Bob's Steak and Chophouse and Mi Cocina in Shops of Legacy....

Morally bankrupt women at Martini Park...
