Restaurant near Galleria

I typically stay downtown, but am staying a couple nights in the Galleria area.

Any recommendation (Galleria area, Westheimer, etc) for a good place that might serve a good seared Ahi (i.e. maybe somewhere similar to a Roy's or something like that) w/ a good wine list?

Thanks!

The Oceanaire Seafood place in the Galleria has some very good seaood. The oyster bar is really fantastic with lots of cold water choices. They have fresh fish every day. Trulucks is also just down the road.

There's Oceanaire, Truluck's, McCormick & Schmick's. Also very good and close is Bistro Moderne at the Hotel Derek.

also in that area are pappas steakhouse, capitol grille, and mortons if you want a steakhouse.

Kona Grill and Red Onion both have good seafood.

Then as others mentioned the steakhouses usually have a good seafood selection - Smith & Wollensky's, Post Oak Grille, and Perry's maybe.

Pesce. I've never actually been so maybe someone else can shed some light on this place.

A little bit of a drive, but the seared tuna at The Nine steakhouse at The Palm in Vegas is THE ****!

ok you a-holes suggesting steak houses when I SPECIFICALLY requested a place to get a good seared Ahi

well, just reading the names of those places FORCED me to at least drive by Smith & Wollensky, and then I was essentially compelled to go in and order a fat veal chop w/ some nice red wine

thanks, had great intentions of a low-fat "healthy" meal for once on the road, and I relapsed back to my red meat carnivorous ways!

I specifically gave you two of the top seafood places in Houston one of which was in the Galleria. You choosing order veal at a 2nd rate seafood palce is entirely your own undoing ;-)

pepper: it definitely wasn't your fault. I was all set to go to Trullucks (looked like a pretty good menu) but then somebody had to chime in w/ steak house suggestions and the seed got planted into my subconscious, which then crept into my conscious mind and bloomed into a full desire for red meat (against my doctor's advice, no less)

"the devil made me do it" or, more precisely "hornfans made me do it"

would agree that S&W was just OK - I'd never eaten at one so thought I'd give it a try (at least there was some viewage at the bar, though)

best steak I've had in Houston was at Vic & Anthony's (but some say that Pappas has the best steaks in Houston - I'll have to try that next time); and I don't care what anybody else says, I've always had a great meal at Morton's (but never eaten at the Houston one either)

there is a new mortons downtown now.

the filet i had there was phenomenal, but it was $45

S&W does attract some gold diggers who look good.

I haven't had a bad meal there, just not worth the price and the arrogance of the wait staff. no big deal, probably chalk it up to "different strokes for different folks"

been to the Strip House downtown? I've heard its excellent, but have not been, yet.
