any thoughts?

Romney seemed to be the most comfortable, confident and prepared. Bachmann did pretty well, IMO. Pawlenty did not impress.

Santorum, Paul, Cain, Gingrich - non factors.

At this point with this field, if you do not want Obama to be re-elected, Romney is your best shot, IMO. [but you know what that is worth

I watched part of it and it was a joke. Ron Paul was trying to answer a question and the moderator cut him off quickly b/c Paul was getting too animated. The fact that they call these things debates is laughable.

I watched for a little while - maybe 20 minutes. All they talked about were God and gays. Pretty funny/scary for a moderate R to watch these guys fight over the hard right vote.

I might be able to vote for Romney. Cain is a joke. I want to learn more about Pawlenty.

Ron Paul did a good job.

Romney needs a new make up guy. He looked terrible last night - almost like he wasn't feeling well.

Ron Paul and Rick Santorum seemed to be the most comfortable with their answers.

No one was awful and no one really stood out.
There is still so much time to go There will be more debates and things will get clearer.

Remembering back to 07 and the first big Dem debate with IIRC 8 candidates no one stood out then either.

It was what you'd expect from a really early debate.

Romney and a bunch of light weights. Unfortunately for Repubs, Romney is as dull as Bob Dole was. Not a good choice for the repubs yet. Perry won't excite too many. Now if Rudy gets in, I think BO has a fight on his hands.

You mean Rudy "911! 911! 911! 911! 911!" Guiliani? Please, no thanks. I dont think I can take any more of that....

Romney and a bunch of lightweights?

My favor for Ron Paul isnt news around here. How anyone can call him a lightweight is beyond reason. Every major news show has had him on as a guest to discuss the economy and foreign policy and just about every single anchor has expressed their respect or admiration for his opinions, whether or not they agree with him. No one seriously questions his base when he is given the chance to explain himself. They may not agree, but they can't question where he is coming from. Even Elliot Spitzer, the *** that he is, has treated Paul with the utmost respect when hes appeared on his show.

Anyone who votes for Romney or Newt is voting for the same old establishment. The others are newer faces, but Paul has been firm in his positions and consistent to the hilt for a long time, and his arguments are very grounded. You know where he stands at all times, agree with him or not.

Sadly, no mainstream news articles have treated him as anything more than an unfamiliar/unknown candidate. Maybe they could say that 4 years ago, but not now. They are trying hard to delegitimize him, and its just showing their asses.

Ron Paul's stance on defense will keep him from ever coming close. The MSM loves him for interviews because he comes across as a nut-job.

Ron Paul is not popular because of the "media's de-legitimization". He is not popular because his ideas do not resonate with the majority of Americans.

That and he looks like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons. I agree that Paul's stance on the millitary is way out there. We have to be involved in certain curcumstances; however, we should get out of all of our wars and eliminate our presence in many places. We need to cut defense spending by 1/3 and if a program does not help more than a million people, it gets cut.

I saw the last 45 min. I thought Pawlenty and Gingrich were answering the questions the best. Romney was ok but apparently did even better earlier on that I did not see.

Pawlenty intriques me. I want to know more about him.

governor of Minnesota is about all I know.

Yo,

Yes it is ironic that Paul appears on CNN, Fox and others frequently, and at the same time, when debates are held, he is framed as an unfamiliar, unknown candidate. Kinda doesnt make sense does it? But that is exactly what happens.

Im not talking out of both sides of my mouth. That is actually what happens.

General, you seem to agree with Ron Paul's military stance. All I have ever heard is him say that he believes in Defense, not military proliferation. He believes that we should get the troops home, not have bases in 100 countries around the world, and should focus on defending the country from real threats on our own soil.

Supporting dictators and thugs overseas only exacerbates the situation, and he is consistently the only candidate who brings that point. Everyone else just looks down sheepishly and tries to ignore that fact.

The Link

Well, I know why Paul isnt liked, and its shocking I tell you.

A. Hes not young, handsome and have a smooth sexy voice.
B. His answers arent canned for easy consumption by mindless people.
C. He attacks the Federal Reserve/Banksters and the Military Industrial Complex

That about sums it up.

Ron Paul is the only one that would ever get my vote. I would rather not even vote than choose any of the others. He is the only one that gives you any hope of stopping or at least slowing down the animal that is our Federal Gov't.

not much of a debate...the CNN questions were a joke and a waste of our time with pepsi/coke, deep dish/thin crust etc. really wtf?

Romney / Bachmann ticket would be interesting

if it ever looked like paul was going to get close to a nomination, i imagine an unfortunate plane crash or other incident would occur. i think the last time a president threatened to cut the millitary industrial complex by not getting involved in foreign wars was around 1963.

I heard a clip on the radio where Gov. Perry was asked if he watched the debate. He repied "no, I was watching the Fighting Texas Aggies beat Florida State in baseball".

Dumbass, you just kissed off Florida, should you get the nomination.

I won't be too happy if I have to vote for Perry, but the alternative is too scary to think about.

In today's GOP, Ronald Reagan would get his butt kicked in the primaries and it wouldn't be close. The party has gone so far right, it's unrecognizable.
