Report: Texas LB Terrance Cooks II has entered the transfer portal

This one disturbs me. I saw the kid play a couple of times in HS. I really wanted him at Texas. Reminded me of Rod Choate; good size, lots of speed, and arrived like a bulldozer.

I hope he lands somewhere that will develop his talent and make him a star.

Agreed, but I'm not optimistic for the short or long term future. And with what I believe to very good reasons.
Yeah, IDE...
I value your reason and viewpoints, and your saying this carry's some weight with me. I have been one of those saying tap the brakes on judgment, especially with the coaching staff, and lets give it some time.
But, if I had real money and had to place a bet, I would not bet on this ship (our program) getting righted any time soon.
There is just something wrong here, and I don't think the "culture" (comprised of people), influencers, and decision makers are going to be able to readily discern much less acknoweldge and correct what really plagues us. I'm not even sure it can be corrected...And I am not the sort to talk such ways typically.
Now, we could start now and turn this thing around by next year for all I know. I'm saying if someone put a gun to my head or I had to bet. My bet, politics and his woke-response issues aside, some start romanticizing the Herman era soon.
I remain hopeful but not optimistic (and I am a very optimistic person by nature fwiw)
My plan is forget about remergence as a national contender for awhile, quit following "the news" as much, enjoy football and the games for the game's sake, and cheer my team on, win or lose.

Your comments are very much appreciated.

Like your comments Rain and have similar thoughts/attitude. After last three games my feelings have gone to there is something deeper here than simply fatigue but regardless I’m still in it. I realized after last year that wife and I are in this because we’re into the whole thing. Games are an ‘event’ for us and I can take the downs (even though I hate them) and enjoy the ups enough to keep coming back. Whether Sark is the answer and can get us back on track I don’t pretend to know but I’ll be there regardless. Hookem

A sensible post.
However i am a little more optimistic due to the recruits we are going to get and a few portals coming in.
I say we have a 10 win season in 2023 despite playing bama and sooners and in 2024 we are playing in the playoffs. I am counting on stellar recruiting classes going forward including, especially, top o-linemen. Despite Sark hiccups i think we get them.
Admittedly i have concerns about Sark. The fake punt was a real head scratcher. Unless Dicker was going to pass but nobody was open and so he decided to run instead of punting. That play was the definition of a gamble.
And then there is the weird second half play calling and not using Keilan enough bothers me.

I am beginning to think that maybe SARK is a better OC than a head coach. At least the head coach could step in and say Sark lets do this this and that and get Keilan on the field.
Hmm, i think i should put in my application for HC. I would it do for 500K, save the university some money and bring us to the playoffs every year. And i would read hornfans and make comments. I wouldn't forget my bros.

That was a real head scratcher. But, the execution was also very poor. Our punter rolled out, then froze.

just a little perspective ... ok I wll go back to recruiting now :smile1:

How much time does a coach need to determine if punting deep, making your opponent drive the length of the field for a TD vs a fake punt on 4th and 11 when you know the opponent is looking for it and failure will likely result in a L??

Here's what I found on Terrance Cooks II:

"Cooks has served as a third-string linebacker for the 2021 season, and saw late action against Rice but did not log a statistic. . . During his recruitment, Cooks had built a strong relationship with then-linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler before Tom Herman and his staff were let go. That relationship was strong enough to assume that Hutzler will have another shot to land Cooks at Ole Miss. Before his commitment to Texas, Cooks' final top schools group featured the Longhorns along with Baylor, Georgia and LSU."

Don't know if he's played since, but he might not be a good fit in what Sark expects. I wish him good luck going forward.

I doubt seriously that Baylor was looking for a fake punt at 4th and 11. They simply made the stop.
But to your point certainly punting the ball was the more sensible call. Anything could happen. A muff, turnover on downs, or turnover.

From where I saw their guys positioned, and 6 of them staying up along the LOS instead of falling back to block, it sure looked like they were coached to be expecting it.

I have often thought this about fake punts, that when the outside guys turn on the burners from the line of scrimmage and then all of a sudden stop after 15 yards comes back toward the LOS he would wide open. Then all the punter has to do is throw the ball in a timely manner. Then you have a converted fourth down. Or have a tight end releasing downfield like Sanders or wiley to cover the punt make a hard cut to the sideline and back toward the LOS. He would be wide open.
Of course the punter would have to have a decent arm.
I know this, POMS would pull this out of the bag occasionally.

It was just one call guys. One call.
Coaches make many mistakes...all of them do. You can pick anything you want if you are feeling picky. Some of you guys continue to underestimate the job of in-game coaching. I yell "quit running up the middle!" right before back breaks through a gaping hole up the middle for 16 yards.
So easy watching on TV...
