Replacing Built In Microwave Above Stove

I don't think there's anything mystical here, but just want to post to be sure.

I have a built-in set up with microwave on top and oven below. The microwave died and new models aren't the same dimensions. Surprise, surprise.

Anyway, I'm looking for a counter-type microwave to put in there (shouldnt' be a problem) and getting trim from microtrim.com. Anything else?

Any recommendations on mwaves?

A few things you need to know....

1) Is there a vent hood, and if so is it built in to the microwave or separate? Can you pull the microwave and leave the vent in place? Check where the vent duct runs, if it's behind the microwave, then you'll need to consider depth of the replacement, not just width and height.

2) How is the microwave mounted? If it has a top or rear mount bracket, you'll have to build a shelf for your replacement which of course will decrease your available space.

3) How is electricity provided? Is there an outlet you can simply plug into or is it hardwired? You may have to add an outlet.

4) Since you're replacing with a counter top microwave, when fitting and trimming out make sure you leave enough space for airflow so as not to overheat the microwave.

There was no vent hookup, for better or worse. I guess the hot air just came around and exited the front through the trim. Could be the builder screwed up there.

There's an electricity outlet in the back, so no problem there.

The old mwave had mounting plates on the bottom and just kinda slid into the compartment. I'm guessing my replacement will be the same way (pretty much has to, right?).
