Replacing battery in laptop

My friend needs to replace the battery in her laptop. New/refurbished batteries seem to run about $100 a piece, but the laptop is about 5 years old and that is a lot to invest in it. Is there somewhere that can fix the battery or sell used ones that I don't know about or should she just use it as a paperweight and buy a new one?

Batteries only have so many cycles in them, so I don't know that a used one would have any value.

I have replaced the battery in my personal laptop and found it on ebay new for like $40. My work laptop has a battery that is easy to take out also.

Don't buy them brand new from the vendor. Find a vendor on ebay or online.

Buy the real deal. Don't buy used or refurbished. Also, stick with name brands. Trust me... I happen to work for a major computer manufacturer and we get more customer complaints about after-market batteries than anything.
