Renters Insurance?

I have my car insurance through State Farm, but is that the best place to get renters insurance for my apartment, or is there a place that is solely for renters insurance? Also, anyone have a link to pricing and monthly payments? Thanks.

I tried buying renters insurance about 6 months ago through State Farm (I have my car insurance through them as well) and they said that they were not currently writing Homeowners (including renters) insurance. However, if I was denied by two other comapnies, my State Farm agent could sell me a policy for $100 a year that is underwritten by the State of Texas. So, that's the route I took.

good move. when i was 25 in the summer of 98, my apartment burned to the ground in Dallas. didnt have renters insurance. never even crossed my mind

At the following link you will find a list of insurance companies actively accepting new customers for all types of homeowners insurance policies, including "Renters" insurance. It's cheap and you shouldn't be without it, not only for protecting your personal property, but your liability exposure. These policies protect you, your property, and your liability world-wide. State Farm is writing Renters insurance again and you might be able to get it for next to nothing. I'm serious!

State Farm has a multi-line discount that makes it a bargain for auto policyholders to acquire Renters insurance. I have seen proposals from SF where the discount applied to the auto premium is about equal to the Renters insurance premium for $15-20k of coverage. Call your agent and check it out.

I had renters insurance for a couple of years through USAA. It was something like $30K in coverage for $35/yr... or something extremely cheap.

i have state farm and before we moved into our house, we were in an apartment with renter's and auto insurance.

our monthly premium actually went down when we added the renter's insurance. it was something like $22/mo, but the line item disount was $25-27/mo.

Seems like we have these 'renters insurance' threads every 3 months. My apt was struck by lightning and burned through my TV, VCR, tuner, amp, preamp, EQ, CD player, cassette desk, and dryer. State Farm told me to go buy new stuff and bring in the receipts. Pretty good deal for less than $60 a yr. Do NOT get rent an apt without getting the insurance.

Renters insurance is allsome. Sprinkler system in the apartment in VA we lived iin broke directly over our apartment and flooded the entire apartment. My renters insurance premium was about $100 a year - Allstate cut us a check for $32,000 to cover relacement cost.
