Removing St. Augustine

Eyeing the fall weather coming up, we are planning to remove some St. Augustine from the front yard and put in beds and some heat tolerant low water plants.

Anyone have a favorite or recommended technique to remove the St. Augustine and prep the beds for planting?

You could use roundup, or just cover the area with a heavy tarp for a few weeks. Either way you will kill the grass, then you can till it up or do whatever you want.

1.Get a case of beer
2.Buy brisket or ribs
3.Call friends and ask them to bring their spades.
4. I think you know the rest.

Sod cutter is the answer unless it is less than 3 ft wide. When renting make sure you get a good one.My business rent them from Sunbelt Rental at Lowes on 620 and 183. Should run about $80 a day.
