Removing soft contacts

New user of soft contacts. Wearing them is not much problem, but getting them out is hit or miss. Sometimes I just reach in and grab 'em. Most times, it's like trying to grasp a cube of jello...I can grasp it, but it just slips out. Any tricks to this?

I'm interested as well. I just started needing glasses this year. I'll probably switch to contacts and let my eyes stabilize for a few years before getting Lasix. The idea of putting my finger in my eye kind of bothers me. So if there are any tricks...

Been wearing contacts since 1991. I want lasik eventually but I want to set up a health care spending account first.

So my advice isn't on how to take it out b/c honestly it is so second nature that I don't know how to describe it.

But I do have some advice for a new contact user. It can be difficult for some to know if you have your contact inside out before putting it in. The best advice I got was from the person at the eye store when I first got them and I have never heard another person describe it like it.

Anyway, put the contact in your palm on the crease below your pinky finger. Fold your palm. If the contact folds like a taco, you have it right. If it doesn't, flip it the other way and try again.

It is the best and only way I know of to tell.

I will slide my lens off of my cornea with my finger just slightly before grabbing it. Seems to help.

As far as putting them in, look at them turned one way and then look at them turned the other way to get an idea of which is right. You want it to be cupped, not flanged out.

With your eye wide open press your middle finger on the skin slightly below your lower eye lid and pull down. Then use your index finger and thumb to pinch the contact lens off your eye. Sometimes it helps to if you lean forward and bend your neck down so that your face is essentially parallel to the table or counter in front of you and you are staring directly down at the table or counter or whatever is in front of you. Use your right hand for your right eye and your left hand for your left eye.

1. ALWAYS make sure your hands are clean. Always. You have no idea how serious this can be if you even have one iota of evil on your fingertips.

2. This is about REMOVING, not inserting... I find that sometimes, I've worn my contacts too long & if so, my eyes are sorta dry under the lens. I find a wetting solution to be the best way to help dislodge them, sorta like WD-40 for the eyes.

Y'all make it sound so complicated. Bend your head, use your right hand, jump on one foot....

Just wash your hands, dry them, then pinch the ******* off your eyes. Voila.

I guess I still need practice. Every time I "pinch" it's like pinching a cube of jello. Sucker just slips out from between my fingers.

I have a "thing" about eyes so I can't stand the thought of touching it to pull the thing off. I've been in soft contacts for a few months now after 14 years in gas permeable (hard). I remove them by:

Right hand, right eye; left hand, left eye.

Index finger on lowest part of eyelid, middle finger under eye. Pull eye open as wide as possible.

Push both fingers in (toward skull).

The suction breaks (you can hear it) and contact comes out. I keep my other hand cupped under my chin to catch it but it usually clings to my eyelashes so not much fear of it falling in the sink.

Just keep doing it. It feels really weird at first - particularly for guys since we're not used to digging in our eyes - but it will quickly pass.

Second the don't touch a jalapeno at any time during the day and try to take out your contacts later. That's one mistake you'll only make once.

It takes about 2 or 3 weeks to perfect a technique. From then on, it should take no more than 1 second to take them out. I use the pinch technique btw.

Ive never even thought of a technique its so second nature. I just took one off a put it back on while writing this sentence.
