Removing dried paint from porcelain, tile

In my bathroom there are several spots that have dried paint on them, and it's been there about a year, and I can't get it up. Is there any sort of chemical that will take it off? I don't want to have to scape it up, becaue I don't want to scratch the counters and tile floor.

What kind of paint is it (latex or oil based?) and what kind of tile (glazed?) do you have?

If it's a latex paint you should be able to scrape it off pretty easily without damaging the tile. Try getting one of those plastic pan scrapers from the grocery store, or Pampered Chef. They do a pretty good job of getting underneath whatever is "stuck on", and the plastic/silicone isn't abrasive to the surface.

If it's an oil based paint, you should be able to use a paint solvent, or possibly even nail polish remover, with a little cotton ball to get it up.

Either way, as long as you're working with tile, and not formica, you should be pretty safe regardless of what kind of "solvent" you use.

There is a product called "Goof Off" that works very well. It's really similar to lighter fluid if you ask me but it does work and on porcelain it should work fine.

Try it on a less visible spot first but the tile should stand up without worry.

Thanks h4l. One of my co workers recommended it, but she couldn't remember the exact name or where she bought it.

Goof off works well, but make sure you don't rub the spot into the grout. It will discolor it and give you a more difficult task than the very minor one you have now.
