Remember when we used to be good at baseball?

How do you score 12 runs and loose a game?

No team ever gets 31 hung on them and lives to tell about it. Really sad
to see us to the point where it would be a mercy killing to drop baseball.
We can only remember the good days and now move on to football and basketball.

TS,
I've disagreed with you in the past, but NOT this time. When champions have an 8-0 lead over one of the nation's best pitchers, champions step on the opponent's neck and finish. It's a disgrace to the tradition of Texas Baseball to allow school & conference records in runs scored, and allow Priday to hit 4 HRs. I think that there are very capable players in the dugout that should be allowed an opportunity to show their skills, and let other position players with hitting streaks that CANNOT make routine plays in the field either sit the bench or DH. At least DHing would hide their fielding ineptitude. I know Augie has pulled off some miracles in the past, but I'm really doubtful about the prospect of a post-season run this year. Tonight we were HUMILIATED by a team that went 2-4 in their last 2 conference series.

Well, I guess we should just enjoy the wins that we get (like an ordinary university) and not be worried about Omaha this year, because there's no way in hell we're goin'. Between the football team losing two straight to aggy and what is happening with this baseball team, I'm starting to feel beat down. Thank god that Rick Barnes maintained some respectability this year. WTF is happening on the 40 acres?

Good point Endust,
In our series opener against NU, we jumped out to a 4-0 lead, only to allow 14 unanswered. Is this team's reputation now "good early lead, then get drilled by double digits"?
I still watch Frank's pitchers @ OSU and remember when our pitchers worked quickly and efficiently, RARELY allowing opposing batters to get in a rhythm.
Big innings against us happen all the time now, and I am aware that many times it's our fielding (or lack of) that's the culprit.
Still, quality of pitching has plummeted since FA left, and I refuse to believe that it's only a "talent" thing.
I'm rambling now, but I'm just so POed!

The pitchers on both teams were throwing poorly. Some of it is due to the cold weather making the ball drop coming over the plate. This is not an excuse for tonight. We do have problems with our pitching. No one person, much less 3 needed starters and a strong bullpen are decisively strong enough to depend on this year. Our infield just isn't making the plays. Our batters are not consistent. This said, I can't figure out what is not happening that should be. Why can't the team pick 2 co captains for some leadership? I don't think the boys are doing this on purpose,so what's the answer?

To lead 8 to 0 and lose 31 to 12 leaves me speechless. Not sure I have seen 31 runs scored in slow pitch softball?

Oh come on ... The sky is not falling .. Making it to super-regionals and even squeezing into Omaha and all can still happen (the latter is much less probable).

None of that answers anything. Skip has not done much, and we have not been what we should be, since FA left. The pitchers rarely seem to be improving from how they looked early in their careers at Texas. Barring a major confluence of coincidences, some blame needs to go on coaching.

Skip Johnson came from Navarro JC in Corsicana where he had a pretty good record feeding quality pitchers to D1 schools, including a couple to Texas, I believe. He is/was well-liked by his players.

The knock on him was lack of D1 experience.

From what I know (the recruitment of one of our pitchers) the pitching coach (Holliday at the time) had little to do with recruiting. That was all Tommy Harmon and he was somewhat less than charming in the process. Perhaps due to the pitcher in question being a rightie and not 6'-6".

I dont know if its talent, development or what, but I agree with the above poster regarding lack of confidence in pitching since FA left.. Something needs to give.

My gosh lets just cry pack up our bags and go home.. Im as pissed about this as the next person but there is allot of baseball left to play and if you want to go ahead and forfeit whats left of the season go ahead. Im sure these guys are hearing more negative talk then they care to and does nothing but make matters worse. Ill hope that somehow this team can find what it needs to turn things around in a hurry.
