Joyner will be playing in the McDonald's All-American game tomorrow, Wednesday, 5:30 on ESPNU. Alecia made the trip to Chicago as well. Both are on the East team - would've been nice to get a glimpse of the next 4 years but I'm patient.

I 've said this before but Joyner is the best player in the country. Watching the game and they can't guard her, especially if she's making her jump shot. She'll be one of the best players to ever play at Texas.

Agreed

Strong, fast, skilled, and college-ready. So glad Joyner is coming to Texas; she fills a void unfilled since Nneka went down with her injury.

Glaring omission by the announcers in this game when talking about schools that have stepped up their recruiting classes....

This female announcer hasn't uttered Joyner's name yet despite a couple of steals, end to end with a nice assist and the first 6 points for the east. Even when the guy says something positive she pivots immediately to Erin Boley.

I had to look her up because I was wondering if she had Notre dame ties

Is it my imagination? This seems like one the best girls McDonalds all-American games I've seen in years. There is a lot of talent on the floor and a lot of talent going to the Big 12. I am EXCITED about Joyner Holmes. Wow.

Watching Joyner...she and Shaun McPherson are going to be spending a lot of time together working on conditioning.

Was this announcing team the best ESPN could get? If so, not making much effort to 'grow the game' despite all the lip service paid this past week.

Well how did she look compared to the others? Did she score much? You happy or disappointed?
She had 10 points and early on looked unstoppable. She also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. She hit 2 midrange shots, followed by a turnaround off the glass from 15. In the second half, she was bringing the ball up the court and literally BLEW BY everybody but missed an easy layup. Cox looked like she had CEMENT feet. On another play, she posted up Cox and spun around her and laid it off the glass. Cox is a good solid player, but I'll take Holmes UPSIDE any day. Holmes was not as productive in the second half. Cox had 8 points. Holmes and Cox guarded each other most of the night. Holmes also hit another turnaround over Cox in the second half. I've watched her many times in the DFW area, and yes, she does need better conditioning, but her ATHLETICISM and SPEED is going to be tough to guard in college. She has unlimited potential to be GREAT!!!!!

Kind of painful to think how close we were to getting Ionescu, and still wonder if we recruited Ramirez. For anyone who didn't see it, those two dominated the scoring in the game with their threes. They were amazingly hot. But, I was impressed with Joyner, her obvious athleticism and ability to do many things. Just based on this game, which you can't put too much stock in, Cox and Chou didn't impress me as much. Cox's three toward the end was nice. Nancy Mulkey's size is fantastic and she displayed a nice shooting touch.

Man, do I agree on Ionescu. And Ramirez is a fabulous catch for TCU. Wish we had one of them, but thank the Gods they didn't go to UConn or Baylor. (Ionescu is deciding between Oregon and California, I believe.) Ionescu looked like she could put a mediocre team on her back and take them fairly far.
Holmes: quick, fast, handles the ball well and can bring it down the floor, good passing eye, has a nice turn around jump shot, didn't look great trying a couple of threes, great acceleration, a multi faceted talent. Needs to work on her outside shooting to reach her maximum potential. A couple of her steals were very impressive and showed real quickness on defense. Best player in country, or just one of the very best? Jury's out on that, but if she could hit the three consistently, in addition to her other gifts, she could help us win a national championship.

Ionescu said at the MCDAA game that she now has a final 3 - added Oregon State.
