After some remodeling, we'd like to relocate our security system main panel (the box where all the wires come into) from a bedroom closet to a media closet where all of the AV, phone, Cat5, satellite, etc wiring is terminated. I know I can just call ADT (we use them for monitoriing), but their labor charges were $88 per hour last time I checked, and that seems pretty steep. I've got a set of 22-gauge wire run from the current location to the new location, so it would essentially be a matter of line-splicing the existing wires together and reconnecting/possibly reprogramming the circuit panel.
Has anyone used an independent/3rd party security system installer that they had a good experience with? I'm also toying with the notion of upgrading the panel at the same time to gain Internet connectivity (ie get a text message on my phone when certain things occur), and I'm thinking that it would be cost-efficient to do both these things at the same time rather than as two separate jobs. I know that there used to be someone posting here who worked for a place like this, but I can't find the text message he/she sent me a few months back...
