I'll be moving to Dallas in mid June. need any helpful advise on apartments in the area. looking to spend no more than $800 a month for a 1 bdrm. will be working out of a home office and meeting a lot with architects and interior designers. i've been told the villages is a good place, centrally located. open to any other suggestions.

Village is great. Nice neighborhood, lots of restaraunts, fitness/sports facilities and close to public transportation. About a 10 minute drive to downtown.

If I were single, I'd live there.

I prefer the Uptown Area more than the Village. Although, when I lived down there it was a little more pricey then what you are looking for. Not sure with all the construction down there whether the prices have come down a bit.

There is a -50% chance of finding something in uptown for $800 unless you rent a shared room

I second the village. Lived there for 5 years and loved every minute of it. Uptown was fun to visit, but too shiny shirt for me (and too expensive). Don't live downtown. It's expensive and boring!

i live in uptown and it is a little pricey but lots going on right in the neighborhood so i like it. i hear good things about the village as well.

One other option if you want to be near uptown, but not pay the premium is the apartments at Lemmon and 75, woutheast corner). I lived there right before I moved to NYC. Really nice, but much cheaper than uptown and you can just walk across the lemmon overpass and you're in uptown.

The Village is fine if you are young. I spent many a night in the Village when I was at SMU law school. But by and large, I was spending the night with undergrads. There were a few law students over there, but it is generally a younger crowd. It is worth noting that the property crime rate in the Village is above average, though I never felt personally unsafe there. And I don't know that it has quite the "professional" atmosphere that you may be looking for.

Uptown is definitely the cool place to be in Dallas. And unfortunately, the rent prices reflect that. But the nice thing is that you can walk to a pretty fair number of watering holes and then not have to get in a car to get home. Whereas the Village has a lot of hot 19- and 20-year old tale, Uptown has those same hot girls when they turn 25.

Contrary to what the above-poster said, I would check out downtown. There are a few things going on down there, and the access to the DART train is a nice bonus. More importantly, the rental rates are very good, and I think it would have some added cache with your interior design types with whom you'll be meeting.

If you're going to be conducting business meeting at your apartment, it is worth checking each property to see if there is an acceptable club room. A lot of the places in uptown and in downtown will have a club room that will have a conference room and/or business center that you can reserve free of charge. For your purposes, that may be very important and may rule out the Village.

Hellraiser, LonghornLawer...thanks for the info on Uptown.
Do you remember the names of any of the apts on 75/Lemon?
Also, I wont be havng meetings at my apt. I'll be doing all meetings at their offices. I'm in my 30's so Uptown seems like it would be more my type of crowd.
