Relief from Gout Pain

I am on a business trip and I appears to have been stricken by gout in my big toe. I have had this pain a couple of years ago, but had no idea what it was so I just toughed it out. I have read all the stuff on the internet about what Gout is and how to prevent it, but I need some tips to get rid of this pain. I am on a business trip out of state, so I just can not roll into my doctor.

How can I get rid of this pain?

Beef, I am no Rhuematlogist, but if it were me, I would hydrate like crazy, take as much Advil/Motrin as your stomach can handle (irratant to the gastric lining) and see a Doc when you get back for either a steroid injection or Allopurinol. The prescription dose of Advil/Motrin is 4 pills 3 times aday if it does not cause gastric burning. As you prabably know, gout is caused by uric acid deposits in your joints. Hydration is essential to flush the crystals out. Good luck & God speed.

By far the most commonly prescribed medicine is indomethacin. It is an NSAID which stops pain and swelling, but does a wonderful job on gout. Do not take aspirin for pain relief. Aspirin can raise uric acid levels so don't take it. Naproxen (Aleve) and Ibuprofen (Motrin) do well if you can't get indomethacin.

Allopurinol Zyloprim is also prescribed as is probenecid. Colchicine is what they teach in school.

Gout is caused by uric acid buildup. Drink lots of water. Foods such as Asparagus, Mushrooms, Seafood and Red Meat may lead to gout so try to avoid them. Eat fruits and berries.

2 tsp of baking soda. this raises the bodies PH level. It works fast and gets to the root cause. When you get it under control start taking celery capsules and black cherry extract. This is a 100 percent cure from pain!!!!

I forgot to add.....you can take 2 tsp of baking soda every four hours. It not only raises the body's PH levels to stop the uric acid production it helps the anti inflammatory work better.

The celery seed capsules work in 2 way. First they are a natural anti inflammatory. Second they do the same thing as Allopurinol. It works better with less side effects. Allopurinol may take a least 1 month for it to start working. Celery seed willl start to work in 2 weeks.

Black cherry exract will act as anti inflammatory and also will dissolve the uric acid crystals that cause so much pain.

I have had gout since i was 19 years old and have been on every medicine know the doctors. As you can see I took my own route.

Look online and find the foods that make the body produce high uric acid amounts.

Drink lots of water and then some more water.

Good point. Allopurinol isn't used for acute attacks. It is used to prevent future attacks (if it is a recurrent problem).

3 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with a glass of cold water, 2-3 times per day, until the accute attack subsides. Which for me was within 24 hours.

Then you can take the same amount once every couple of days for prevention.

Some people don't believe this works, and it might not work for you based on specific body chemistry. But I can tell you I've found it to be the miracle cure. I had tried baking soda and cherries and dark cherry extracts and all of the other organic/holistic solutions. Some seemed to work a bit, but none of them worked like ACV.

Good luck!

Oh, and of course I agree with those who suggest Ibuprofen, which acts as both a pain-reliever and an anti-inflammatory.

1) Hope the gout subsides.

2) I drink boat loads of water and pee a ton. I don't know if this has prevented anything in my case, but I have to think it's good for me.

3) CHERRY SEASON!!

-I just realized that it's the end of Cherry Season up there. I could go through Bing cherries by the pound when I was in LA. Get 'em when they are on sale for ~US$1.99 and just go to touch. (Good source of "fiber" too.)

Once again, good luck. And it's amazing how much knowledge can be gained by Hornfans. Oh and "Beef"- you might need to lay off your namesake.

So how much water is enough? I had a urologist tell me one time that, "If you're not pissing at least once an hour, you're not drinking enough water." So let that be your goal - whatever it takes to get you to that point. The amount of water you need depends on your size, metabolism, etc. - but the basic point is if you don't have to go, you need more water. Drink up!

i usually end up drinking around 1-1.25 gallons of water a day. basically, my goal is to "pee clear" by mid-day and stop drinking water in the mid-afternoon so i don't have to pee constantly at night. if you have gout or have had gout you're much more prone to kidney stones. so drink up.

Two kidney stones suffered and I guarandamnedtee you that I drink enough water. My goal is to pee clear most of the time as well. If I don't, I work harder at it. I also take cranberry pills to help avoid them. I will be very happy if I never have another kidney stone. I don't wish one on anybody.

Tell us what worked for you and your gout.

Could you expound on your solutions a bit more please? How and how often do you take each of the things you've mentioned and where are they available.

When i first start the regiment(i was in pain) I took 2 tsp baking soda in flavored glass of water every 4 hours along with ibuprofen. When the inflammation is under control(works really fast. maybe a half day and pain is gone)

When pain is gone I take .5 tsp baking soda either in morning or night. If i drink dark beer or eat alot of seafood i make take .5 tsp in the morning and at night. The celery seed and black cherry extract both can bought at a health food store. I follow the bottles directions on those 2.

On a side note you would think sodium bicarbonate would raise the blood pressure a little. I have not seen any changes in mine.

I have reversed all of the damage the gout did to my joints(it was severe)The black cherry will dissolve the uric crystals left behind.

The celery seed will aid in cleaning the kidney from any uric crystal buildup and also stop the uric acid production.

Thanks BLESSMEHORNS, I'm going to give those solutions a try. I'm not having acute attacks right now anyway, but I'm interested in anything that can help remove some of the depositions and reverse some of the joint damage.

Your welcome. I would not wish gout pain on my worst enemy. I hope you find the success that i have. If you have any more ?'s just shot me an im

Im pain free and have been that way since using the baking soda. I was having 4 to 6 attacks a year, some lasting 2 to 3 weeks at a time. If it works it works. i would stick to the vinegar if it works.

It's amazing getting rid of that pain, isn't it?

The first time it happened to me I was in my mid-20s. I thought I had broken my toe. I was young and stupid and didn't go to the doctor, and then a week later the pain went away. So, I must have just strained or sprained something, right?

A year or two later I went to my doctor for a regular physical work up, and he noted that I had a high uric acid level in my blood. He immediately prescribed allopurinol, but I never filled the prescription.

I didn't have another attack until I hit about 30. Then I started getting them a couple or three times per year, usually after a weekend of partying (not surprisingly, many of my attacks have come after the first football weekend in the Fall, or after TX-OU). After several of these, I finally did some research and self-diagnosed. I went to a different doctor and he agreed. But he didn't want me to go on allopurinol, because it can be hard on other body systems like the kidneys. He gave me prescriptions for heavy painkillers, and advised if the attacks became more frequent, we could re-visit the meds.

A couple of years went by, getting the attacks 2 or 3 times per year with acute symptoms lasting 4-10 days. That's when I began doing research on holistic/organic remedies. I'd already heard about the cherries, cherry juice, and cherry extracts, and had experienced only mild relief with them. I read about the baking soda, and the next acute attack I tried it. It seemed to help, but still didn't make me pain-free immediately. I also read about ACV, and so for the next attack, I used ACV and it knocked the pain completely out.

That was a year ago, and I've been pain-free and symptom-free since then. I still take ACV once or twice per week, and every few months I feel a twinge like an attack might be about to start, so I double dose on the ACV and it knocks it out again.

Definitely got to do what works for you, but I think I'll incorporate some baking soda, celery seed, and cherry extract into my regimen as well. I never want to feel that pain again, in my toe, or even worse in my kidneys!
