I have convinced my wife that the power of Hornfans can answer every question to the point that she asked me to ask all of you if there is a consensus on the release date for Wii Rock Band 2. Please don't let me down.

A few notes:

Best Buy website has the date as 12/17: link

Rumors that Wii RB2 won't come with the instruments until early 2009: link

If you don't already have RB1, I'd consider getting Guitar Hero: World Tour, which has better instrument controllers.

1. Go online to the Gamestop site, and they will tell you which stores in your area have the GH World Tour band kit.

2. Buy at Gamestop, go back online, enter your receipt code, and Gamestop will give you the cheat code that unlocks all the songs for GHWT.

The band kit is the same price everywhere - so why not buy at Gamestop? I did!

The way the 360 maps the 5 pad set into six pad world tour is by mapping the orange cymbal to the blue pad. It automatically detects the RB set is hooked in and condenses the chart down. The PS3 set is supposed to do that, but it's not working properly yet.

RB2 Wii was supposed to release in November. Rumor has it that the reason the game is pushed back is to provide compatibility with the World Tour instruments. Many Wii owners bought GH3 because it was out last October. When RB Wii came out in June, it wasn't cross compatible with the guitars (Guitar Hero instruments use a Wiimote, RB instruments don't). A bunch of features (World Tour Mode, online play, downloadable content, character creator) were also absent from RB Wii. I think that kept a lot of folks away- I don't think Harmonix realized their mistake until sometime in September when all the Wii preorders for Guitar Hero World Tour started rolling in.

There had been reports that there wouldn't be any compatibility in the instruments, but Harmonix announced in October that the GH3 Wii guitars would work in RB2 Wii. And around that time the delay from November to December was announced.

Still no word on drum compatibility- we're hoping!

The Wii console comes with one wiimote, so you'd need three more to play with all 4 instruments at once (guitar, bass, vocals and drums).

Keep in mind- the band kit includes a microphone, guitar and drumkit. If you want a second guitar (for the bass player) you'll need to pick it up separately.
