Regional locations: number 1 seeds

1. UCLA West
2. South-either Memphis, Kansas, Georgetown, Texas
3. Midwest either Memphis Kansas, Georgetown, Texas
4. UNC - East

Okay, so with Duke and Tennessee losing this is how it looks to me. Lunardi had Texas, Kansas, Georgetown, and Duke as #2 seeds but I don't see Georgetown moving up, does anybody?

Who do you give a number one? Texas or Kansas?

This is how I think it will turn out...

Memphis is the 1 in the South
UCLA is the 1 in the West
UNC in the 1 in the East (assuming they beat Clemson tomorrow)
The winner of the Texas/Kansas game will be the 1 in the Midwest and the loser will be the 2 in the South

Right now you give it to KU unless we beat them tomorrow. Then we can take it from them if the committee still cares at that point.

right, so I think the committee will go ahead and assume that because of the location of the game, KU will win. I don't think the committee will want to wait for the outcome of the game. I think win or lose we got what we wanted #2 in Houston!

They rank the #1 seeds 1-4, and then they determine the most beneficial region for them in that order. UNC - East, then Memphis - South, UCLA - West, and then the toss-up for the Midwest.

If that doesn't convince you, this might.

Memphis will be in Houston. They are closer to Houston than any other regional, and the committee (unless they completely change precedent) will give Memphis the closest spot to them as a higher 1 seed than UT or KU.

I'll admit that it looks like the one scenario has occurred where the Big XII Title Game can really matter. I don't know if it still will since the committee can decide Tennessee should be a 1 seed anyway because of better computer numbers, the unusual situation in Atlanta, or other reasons. But it definitely looks like I was wrong in saying the Sunday Big XII game cannot matter at all because we now rationally have a reason why it could. This may be the first ever time the Sunday game has mattered.

UCLA is the 1 in the West, Memphis is the 1 in the South, and UNC is the 1 seed in Charlotte, probably even if they lose tomorrow. So it really comes down to Detroit now. Saying the UT/KU loser means the 2 seed in Houston makes no sense since that's assigning a 2 seed to a particular city, which the committee doesn't really do. It's based on S-curve, or at least it's supposed to be.

I'll guess the winner tomorrow winds up in Detroit either as a 1 or a 2 because if Tennessee keeps the one seed in Detroit, they'll be the lowest 1 and the UT/KU winner will be the highest 2. The loser gets the 2 in Phoenix. UNC will be the overall 1 seed and therefore gets the worst 2 seed, which can likely be Wisconsin. Memphis is the second-best two seed and may get Georgetown. UCLA is the third-best 1 seed and therefore gets the 2nd-best 2 seed, which is the UT/KU loser. Duke is a 3 seed for being 5-4 in their last 9.

All best guesses, of course. The committee has done weird things in the past.

Let the seedings fall where they may. I just want to beat KU in the tournament final for once. I'm tired of being the runner up.

Good point guys.
I think if UT wins we get #1 in South, Memphis moves to Detroit. While Memphis is a higher 1 seed, Motor city is not that far compared to Houston.
If Ku wins, Ku gets #1 seed in Detroit and Memphis gets #1 seed in Houston. UT get #2 seed in Houston.
I think things today worked out well for us. UCLA winning, Gtwon and Duke losing. Lets kick JHawk *** tomorrow and get #1 in Houston.

People should stop dreaming that if we win we might be a #1 seed in the South. It's just not going to happen. The Big XII championship game ends too late. Even if the committee had a mind to put us in the South and Memphis in the Detroit for the "overall good" of the one seeds, there just won't be enough time to make the switch and the domino effect plausible.

Right, the best we can hope for is that they have a #1 slot set up for the winner and a #2 for the loser, and fill in the names after the game. They're not going to shuffle other #1s around to different regions based on which of the 2 B12 teams wins tomorrow.

And frankly, I don't see how they can possibly have that #1 slot anywhere other than the Midwest.
