Regarding USA's Nastia

SPOILER WARNING!

She loses the gold to China He Kexon in the uneven bars in women's gymnastics by the slimest of margins. They actually tied but the Chinese got the tie breaker thus Nastia has to settle for silver. Too bad the Chinese had to cheat and break the rules and use an underage girl to get their gold medals. It is even more too bad that the IOC isn't going to do a thing about it even though it has been said everyone there knows she is underage. They not only cheated us out of gold but others out of a bronze and the bronze who should have got a silver.

I thought something happened in the all-around...

Focus on adding a Spoiler alert.

Actually the person in 4th would have stayed in 4th, even with a tie for 1st. And the person who got the bronze, would have stayed at bronze. See if two people tie, then the third person is still this place, and the fourth person is still fourth place.

SPOILER ALERT - It's a question though

I didn't see Sacramone's vault, but I have read she got jobbed again. It said she had a relatively low start value, but nailed her vault. It then said her Chinese counterpart had a higher start value, but didn't land hers. For anyone who saw this, what were your impressions and what were the impressions of the analysts?

Badger - Sacramone didn't really get jobbed. She did fine on both, but didn't stick either landing - both had a step. The announcers said the same...that with her low start value she really needed to have incredible vaults and she just didn't. I felt bad for her, I really wanted her to medal.

Dude....

You just ruined that event for me tonight.

Why is it so hard for people to understand the idea of a spoiler? Do they just not care and think getting the scoop and being the first to post is cool?

sacramone's scores were good enough to get the bronze. the judges ****** her over by giving the chinese girl too high a score. the girl FELL on her landing. her knees hit the mat. it should've been a .8 deduction but they didnt count off like a regular fall which Bela was complaining about, calling it the worst tragedy in these olympics so far.

I put spoiler warning at the top of the paragraph. Too late. My apologies scottsins and to all that has spoiled it for you. I will try to do better next time. I am so ashamed.

man, so now i've had the floor, uneven bars, and women's 100m ruined for me (only uneven bars at this board). i also thought it had to do with all-around. so between this, the romanian on floor doing the performance of her life, and sacramone yesterday, we have missed out on moving up several spots in several events by the slimmest of margins.

and sacramone definitely got screwed in not getting the bronze. i mean how in the world can a competition be based on 2 vaults, and one person lands on their freakin' knees on one of the vaults, and gets 3rd? given that there are only 2 vaults, if you straight up splatter all over the mat on 1, there should be no way you beat out anybody else that didn't also splatter all over the mat. the emphasis on difficulty seems to be so out of whack. the chinese girl that fell on her knees (and did the pushoff completely wrong) got the same score that liukin got on the vault in the all-around when she did it absolutely perfectly. it's like they'll look for anything to punish you with on an easy routine and look for any credit to give you on a hard routine, no matter how crappily you do it. you're supposed to be scored on how you execute that routine, no matter how hard or easy. you're already getting credit for difficulty in the start value. the judges, or this scoring system, don't seem to comprehend that.

of course, if sacramone just doesn't hop on one of those, she might've had the gold and wouldn't have to worry about this, but she still should have had the bronze.

I think you just lost focusness Bill. I'll get over it.

I hate when things are tape-delayed. I've had to avoid ESPN and newspapers all last week (and this week) because they don't put Olympics stuff in a seperate area.

As for Sacramone....Hell...I think I could hit the vault do some flips in the air....I bet I could get a decent score since landing does not seem to matter anymore. It's ridiculous...What does it matter what you do in the air if you can't land afterwards.

Although I will say that I'm confused why our girl was doing a 5.8 vault on her second attempt when you are in the Olympic finals for that event. Seems like you should have another high valued routine for such an event.......especially when you don't have to actually land it!

Seriously, that chick looks like she's 10. I understand that asians look younger than whites, and gymnasts usually look younger than non-gymnasts, but my god, even when you consider those factors, she is probably 13, 14 at the most.

WTF??? On the vault, you have a chinese gymnast land on her freaking knees....and gets a bronze medal?? Tonite, He had more mistakes and a big step on her landing. Nastia sticks the landing and has a near-perfect routine, and TIES with He?? WTF?? This is getting to be just ******* ridiculous now.

They should give He some diapers and an Easy-Bake Oven along with the gold medal.

while we've been getting royally screwed on the scores, hasn't it been a pretty good olympics for gymnastics? the men pulled a bronze out of nowhere, the women wanted gold but still got silver, we went 1/2 in all-around, 2/3 in floor, and should have had gold in uneven bars and bronze on the vault (but got silver and 4th thanks to the wonderfully impartial judges). that seems better than we usually do.

I'm more incensed over the Sacramone situation than the tiebreak debacle. Still, it's ********* all around.

Bill in Sinton, I know you meant no harm with your post but if I may gently suggest--add more blank space below the spoiler warning before posting the content. It's difficult to avert your eyes that quickly when the spoiler is right below the warning.

Reading this board while the Olympics are still in progress is like playing with fire. If you got burned, it's your own fault. Don't blame anyone else.

Any "sport" that includes sequins and subjective judging is always going to have problems. Oh, and you can add boxing too.

I was talking once with an English co-worker about the similarities of cricket and baseball. He was horrified to learn about things like spitballs and the "hidden ball" trick. He said that you could never do that in cricket- it's a gentleman's game.

NBC said an Australian judge did us in. The judge deduced our gymnist more for a slip than they did for the Chinese gymnist for the same thing. That is what caused the tie. Thanks for nothing Australia. I hope our women's basketball team blows you off the court.

The tiebreaker system as they explained it last night was convoluted and completely arbitrary. Not to mention that judges from a competitors country aren't allowed to participate so we're left with judges from French Guiana, Tonga, and Antarctica.

It's too bad, because gymnastics are fun to watch but the scoring system kind of ruins it. Maybe there needs to be some soccer style "Gymnastics Hooligans" in the stands to scare the judges straight by threatening to riot.
