Regarding Muschamp at Auburn....

I was listening to ESPN Austin this a.m. One of the guys on there was giving his top 5 underappreciated coaches. At #4 he listed Tommy Tubberville. To which his on air counterpart stated, "Well, we'll see how good Auburn's defense is this year without Muschamp running it."

Are you freakin' kidding me? Auburn's defense was stellar before Muschamp got there. It will be stellar without Muschamp. Tubberville runs the defense. The DC under him is more of an assistant than anything.

The same goes for Nick Saban. He is a defensive coach. That's his baby.

I'm not saying Muschamp isn't a great coach. It's just very apparent that the biggest bullets on his resume are being DC under defense minded head coaches who essentially ran the defenses. The Horn faithful is talking about him like he's the second coming... Since he's being handed the reigns at Texas, it will be his true proving grounds. And I'm sure he would agree. This will be HIS defense.

Kind of reminds me of all the GREAT QB's at Florida under Spurrier. Were they really that great or was it the system. Is Muschamp really that great or was it Saban and Tubby?

The year or two will be telling, for sure.

One b in Tuberville. Other than, I agree to an extent, though Muschamp's clearly a great coach, and both Saban and Tuberville will tell you that. Having said that, Gene Chizik had great defenses at Auburn and was hailed as a genius. Then came Will Muschamp, the next boy genius. Now it's Paul Rhoads' turn to be a "genius." 2-3 years from now, Tuberville will find another "genius."

Eddie Reese? Damn, Olympic swimming coach AND defensive coordinator. What can't he do?

Guessing that's Carl Reese.
