Thinking about taking the wife on a date to Reed's Jazz and Supper Club up near Stonelake Blvd and 360. Anyone been there and what has been your experience? What is the crowd like there? (we are 24 yr old recent grads) Like another guy said, looking to do something a little different from our normal routine. If there are any other suggestions I am definitely open. Thanks.

Depending on the night, it's a mixed crowd of young professionals, old people, and a couple of tight white-shirt guys and coke whores.

Has live jazz playing most nights, and a small dance floor. Food is average for a "classy" pricier place.

It's a good place, depending on what you're looking for. I like it.

Been there -- the bar is good if you like jazz, and the food is good, though there are better steaks to be had. The crowd may be a little older than you, but not excessively.
Alternative in the area: Eddie V's by the Arboretum.
Alternative downtown: Fleming's, or if you want something a little "funkier", I like Ranch 616

Ok thanks, that clears some stuff up. Not so concerned about fitting in with the crowd, but sometimes when you are a younger couple it can be hard to get the same level of service. I guess if you look like college kids, they think you are on a college budget or something. Eddie V's was my other choice, so maybe I will just do that.

wild_turkey,

i'm 26 now and have been going there for about 3 years now. if you are looking for a great barstaff, decent scotch selection and just an overall good place, i would recommend it (and good happy hour apps, too, if you're just going for a drink and some food after work).

for dinner, just call ahead and specifically request reservations in the booth room - trust me, she'll enjoy it. it is a separate room to the side of the main dining area with 3 individual booths so it is quieter and a little more intimate.

i went there last year with the wife, and we enjoyed it. we sat in the booth room, which was cool, and the waitstaff was friendly (we're young too). I had a decent NY strip. Not the best ever, but good. the chocolate bread pudding was reeeeally good. it was expensive for what it was, but we had a $75 gift card which softened the blow.

and as an update, all the old bar/management staff are gone and seem to have been replaced by people fresh off 6th (bar anyway). any other suggestions on a nice arboretum/north bar with a halfway decent scotch selection? eddie v's is all i could think of.

There is a band that plays at Reed's called Blue Mist. Most of them are completely blind. My mom is a VI teacher and taught most of them. So we'll go every now and then to watch them. I'm 22 and I had a good time.
