RedSox cut Smoltz

As a RedSox fan, and more importantly as a baseball fan, it was kinda sad to see him try to work his way back after shoulder surgery. He just wasn't getting it done this season. Looks like his poor outing last night with the Yankees might have been his last. Anyway, he has had a hell of a career.

It is sad to see Smoltz go out that way (if he is done) , but the fact that it is happening to Chowderhead Nation is kind of funny.

Unfortunately this is yet one more case of an athlete who held on one year too long (like Willie Mays). He certainly has earned his spot in Cooperstown.

I guess it's very hard for someone who has been at the top of the game to accept that he just doesn't have it anymore.

And Smoltz just doesn't have it anymore. Props for trying, but time to head to the showers, old man. You've done more than enough!

It must be really hard after being a Baseball player, and doing almost nothing but baseball, since you were a little kid to suddenly be in your 40s and have to find something else to do with your life.

I am sure its hard to realize it might be over but he did get to live his dream and did quite well. Hard to feel to sorry for him. I probably feel worse for some of the guys who go 4 years of college hoping to give that dream another go at the next level and dont end up getting that shot. I know I would like to have had that opportunity and it didnt come.
